I've been using similar LED modules for animated name badges at conventions, and have recently came across a variant that has Bluetooth programming capability, and can be used/programmed with a great deal less technical know-how (i.e. no need for dinking around with wiring circuit boards or programming Arduino modules)...although now that I look at my AliExpress wishlist, that particular vendor seems to have cleared their online store, after answering a question of mine a week prior.
The flipside is, these devices are self-contained 11x44 units and I know of no projects to use them in the manner described in the link (chaining multiple modules together to make longer displays). Also, I haven't seen any displays using smaller LED's (I'd be interested in some to fit in some 1/32 scale radio-controlled buses if any really small ones did exist, so I'd notice if there were any out there)
I suspect that the technology exists, but no profitable justification for sizes smaller than these. It might be easier to scare up a miniature LCD display (such as those used in smartwatches or small media players), There you have the size, but not necessarily the aspect ratio, for much the same reason.
