Well I didn't get any train room time today, but I sure did have a great time with my mom and younger brother! We all went out for lunch, then came home and got the Christmas Tree up and decorated! My didn't help hanging things, but she is a great director! LOL Put that there and this over here! LOL All in all it was a well deserved day for us all!
But Tomorrow is another day and anything could happen, maybe even some train time! LOL

Hopefully I'm staying ahead of Paul. Last 2 nights got the foam in between the tracks, painted foam, glued batting for earth texture, painted batting, and created walls. Next up is applying static grass and weeds to track level. So Paul let's see what you got done.
I did several things today.
i bought some new shop light fixtures fluorescent bulbs, installed them to illuminate the things planned. I set up a stereo system with two vintage AR speakers and some modern 25 watt tube power, and a CD player. Music is the soundtrack of my life, lol. I set up a method of banking my curves as the 031 curves are right near the edge of my doors/tables. Clothes pins halves work really well, then fastening the lower part of the track into the homosote. Will try and load a video. I ran feeder wires and started to fasten track down. Gathered my old catenary and started to fix them for re-installation.
Quite a full day. Two more vacation days left. I may get the rest of the curves banked, fasten some more track and set up a loop of overhead. We will see.
One can see the tank cars on a banked angle more easily on this video.
I have had a successful day so far. I plan on running a separate power line under each table for whatever accessories I may use, to be determined after all trackwork is nearing completion.
Oh yes Fendermain, Cream and Hendrix All day!
Catenary poles in a bag, they are a calling me! Will do the sorting tomorrow and resoldering broken parts.

I posted prewar questions on "To those who operate prewar." I need a green door and orange door track for a prewar 805 boxcar. Anyone? Need not be mint. Are there reproduction wheels for a 252 engine? Zero time in the train room today. I did blow apart two GP9's for a repaint and conversion to GP7's. I took apart a foosball table to move it into the house. Tomorrow I will put it back together. Being old is not for chickens.

I enjoy music in my train room but I am not EXPERIENCED with stereo valve amps. Very fine Leroof...I applaud you. No fun crawling under layouts as I recently made wiring modifications to mine.

I tediously, had to take a break with a crick in my neck, put strips of shingles on the roof of the gas pump office l built to get gas sales away from the flour fire hazard of the mill store. I finished that, mill store is done and signed, and am making a miniature mill wheel as an advertiser to also go up on office roof.

Also repaired the coupler. Didn't have a retainer, and the pin was chewed up anyhow, so I cut threads with a 4-40 nut and secured it with Loctite!

Fendermain, my old beaten up EP 5 has a hidden switch I placed in the defunct battery compartment. Flip the switch and pantographs are LIVE! It worked great last layout, should work fine. Catenary is time consuming to repair, setup, and shape out wire. The over head rail is code 100 scale rail mounted upside down, held in place with rail joiners. Sparks too!
so the plan is currently not to enlarge the layout, but run an electric and a steamer or diesel on the same layout route. Right ZW handle for lower center third rail operation, Left handle for overhead power. Trick is to keep both trains running without collision on the three tables. The plan is full of reverse loops to keep things interesting. I may add a passing siding for a potential third train in this scenario.

So I see my buddy Bryan has posted his progress so far, impressive. He is right late starts do not give us much time to complete anything. I got the boards cut and glued for the lift off section with scenery. I decided to do it this way so that one, the module would not be too heavy and awkward to carry and also so anything glued on would not get broke off in transit on set up or break down. This is where I am at right now. I started cutting foam board to start layering it up and away from the tracks. Not quite sure where I am going with this. It will be more of trial and error. I also decided to bite the bullet and buy an inexpensive hot knife for foam. Found this one at Menards. Couple of pics............Paul 2

Very clever. The nice part about your layout is that it can be totally modified with relative ease when you are tired of it. The only thing I can do with mine is scenery or building structure mods. Yours reminds me of layouts from Peter Riddle's Trains from your Grandfather's Attic publication.

Its a slightly modified plan from Peter Riddle's Easy Lionel Layouts You Can Build.
I just cut the 022's to make it fit the three foot width, and modified a figure eight inside one of the return loops. Everything I wanted in a postwar theme at least for now.

Mark, Thank you! I was talking with the wife after mom and brother left and she told me that mom want to come and stay with for a couple weeks! Which is fine with me as she doesn't have her own place so she has been staying with my siblings. Its a good thing there is 6 of us! LOL

Well I have to do a little work around here before tomorrows furnace install. Then put the wife's snow tires on!
Then my plan is to get into the train room, build a track cleaning car and clean my track. Seams like have a couple dead spots and I want to do a good leaning before I start worrying about more power drops!

So yesterday I started out my train time with one of my hopper car doors getting caught on a switch and then spilling "coal" everywhere. After cleaning that up I spent the rest of my time adding another small yard. This is going to come up next week to put a Christmas tree where the coal loaders are but I'll still have a loop around the tree.

Leroof thank you. Brown stain like the walking platform or black stain as the ties are painted black? The Christmas lights are from Costco...there are a lot of lighting options with them and 4 sets for around 10 bucks. Good deal.

As someone who loves doing things on the layout I love this thread. As evidenced by well over half a million views, so do a lot of others here.
That being said, dare I suggest a change? Perhaps this thread could be for things done on our layouts, and a spin off thread called "What have you run on your layout today?" be set up. It appears that many of the posts here, being pics of engines and rolling stock, would better fit such a spin off.
I know that I would enjoy both threads.

Fendermain, I personally like the brown stain on the ties, but a dark stain such as walnut or similar would bring out the grain. It's a bit more work but imagine the ties as nice as the cross platform. My thumbs up on it. Solid black is good though.
