I sent this question to Scott Mann to determine which of his kits (or planned kits) would be appropriate to order for the described need. He suggested putting the question on the forum. So, here it is.

I have several freight cars (about a dozen) that have an on-board sound or action that is battery powered. The sound/action is controlled by a switch on the underside of the car. It is either on or off and requires me to pick up the car to operate the switch. It then runs continuously until the battery is dead or until I pick it up again to turn off the switch. Is there an ERR kit that would allow this on/off switching by a TMCC command? If so, will you have these boards on the purchase list for future sales? If so, I would like to be on the preorder list for a dozen. I can do this order myself if these kits are already on your order list if you can tell me the name of this kit.

I don't think he has determined a need for this kit yet and thinks that posting this question on the forum might stimulate us to create a demand for such kits that he can then service by building/supplying them for us.

I did a cattle car with a Mini Commander and a down converter switching power supply off eBay.

The only one Scott has listed that would be appropriate is the ERR MINI COMMANDER HC KIT, sadly the price really rocketed up from the old ERR prices.  $60 for that is pretty steep, so I don't see doing much of this in the future, the last ERR price was $40.  Also, if he doesn't get sufficient pre-order, it won't get produced at all.  At that price, I'm not ordering any, and I used to use a bunch of those.   It's a shame that it got priced out of reach, having the capability to add TMCC to stuff like rolling stock was a key differentiator between DCS and TMCC/Legacy.  Now there is no low-cost method of adding simple TMCC control to other units.
