Back on my 'York Haul' post here with the Class A (20-3036-1), I might have mentioned that the original inner wrapping was missing, as was the outer box. Well, I don't know how I'm going to get an outer box, but I did remember seeing in one of MTH's shipping updates an item that I subsequently ordered last week, a pack of MTH "Locomotive Wrapping Material", 60-1001:
This includes (25 I think) sets of inner foam wrap, MTH-branded plastic outer wrap and ribbons for lifting your hefty steamers into and out of their spaces in the styrofoam trays. While it's true I'm only going to get to use at most three of these sets (my Anniversary Dash-8 and NKP Berkshire #765 being the other eventual recipients once I get or make some sort of styrofoam trays for them), it was worth having for when I transport this loco to get its Proto-3 upgrade, so the remaining ones will find a use somewhere, if not in my own collection, then in someone else's

I'm going to pick on you. Brother. If you can make Styrofoam trays, You can make outer boxes, and would not it be nice to have well stained high gloss wooden box for each one, don't you think they deserve it, or even better don't you think YOU deserve it

What I have is the Hot Wire Foam Factory scroll table. The material I have is those 1.5" thick styrofoam shipping boxes (ProPak brand) used to ship frozen meat with dry-ice bags (my mother has been ordering meats this way on a semi-regular basis):
As you can see, I've got a surplus stack of these (even more than what's in the photo) in various sizes that I can mine for flat slabs to cut up, pin and glue (with styrofoam-specific glue, also from Hot Wire Foam factory). While directly copying a the cavities of a locomotive container is beyond any normal person's capabilities (as far as I know), I can stack flat slabs with cutouts to more-or-less mimic the shape of a typical diesel or steam loco with additional blocks to keep detail work from being subject to the pressure of the locomotive (particularly important for steamers) lying on its side.
Sourcing corrugated cardboard in sizes sufficient to enclose the final shape of these (so far hypothetical) containers will be a little trickier. And as for the finely-finished wood cases, I'd need a workshop and carpentry skills. Unfortunately I lack the space for the former and thus a facility to develop the latter

Sounds good to me. If I had your talent, though, I would go ahead and line the cavity with a nice velvet. of the road color including the front of the Styrofoam, Then build a nice, varnished wood box around the Styrofoam, and put a Framed and hinged Plexiglas plate on the front. Again You, the money you spent and the model all deserve the best.

As they come from QVC, they're just taped up and labeled like any other shipping box. According to my brother, who is home to receive the shipments from UPS, maybe one time out of ten they'll come in a cardboard carton with the styrofoam box inside.
The LIFOAM (makers of the ProPak styrofoam shipping cartons/coolers) website lists them as being sold with cardboard outer boxes, but maybe QVC gets them without the cardboard, or separates them for use in non-perishable shipments. The lids slot into recesses in the lip of the box, so they're pretty secure once taped up.
As an aside, I see some people are re-selling their used foam cartons on Ebay. Viable, I guess after seeing what some of them cost new at retail.

My MKT Heritage SD70ace Pre-ordered early 2022 and it finally got here. A little oil and away it went.
I got a little anxious since I found 3-4 of the previous versions at very good prices while I was waiting. It will look good pulling all my Texas Special and MKT items.

The big box from Menard's came in.
I wanted the Saturn V as soon as I saw it once I was on the web site I figured I would add some other things. My daughter served in the USAF for 4 years so the flat with Power Wagon was a no-brainer. I already had red, yellow and Army versions of the Power Wagon, never saw a blue one on the road, or off, so I had originally passed on it but why not. And the deuce and a halfs were just too good to pass up. I think the USAF Power Wagon is just a touch lighter than the blue one.
The true NO-BRAINER was forgetting to order the power pack for the Saturn V. That brain fart cost me another shipping and processing fee.

Waaaaay cool. Thanks to your daughter for her service. do seem that power wagons a different era then the Rocket. , but, as Isaid before It is your railroad. Beside there could have been a blue unit, Kind of like the American version of the British Mosquito

The backstory on this car.
My Grandson just graduated from the Black Bird Academy in Nashville TN. He studied sound engineering. He also has a band. He is working with Clair Global, he’ll be working on the setting up of the Taylor Swift this weekend. When this showed up on EBay I thought it was nice tribute; but also thought graphics would look better on a boxcar. I tried to stimulate interest at METCA to create such a car; but found out that a boxcar with guitar graphics did not make the cut for the Nashville convention. So here is the flat car with crates of Martin & Co guitars. Lionel didn’t even put a Roadname on the flatcar, ugh.
@Sitka are you a spruce? See the 2nd crate from the right .

Had to look that up, A Sitka spruce tree pretty cool our wolf (Husky) is named after Sitka the first town in Alaska well they think they are Wolfs they play rough with other four legged animals. Now I have to buy a small Sitka to plant pretty cool Pennsy!

That are a cute little critter, reminds, (and I'm dating myself) of a little critter that was in HO, DECADES AGO. That, on a four wheel rubber band drive and looked like a small upside down shoe, with a propeller on the back that would race around the tack a high speed.
Been busy with a club-related project and haven't really had time to photograph anything. Here are a few recent acquisitions.
MTH Rail King GP7 w/Proto3. It's a freight unit.
MTH Premier GP9. Passenger setup, but I'm going to see if I can get a scale tank for it.
Atlas Trainman Rock Island PS4750 Covered Hopper. I'm going to patch this one for CNW and switch it over to scale wheels.
In my never-ending quest for York-related car offerings, Weaver 2010 Fall tour. Like the other Weaver cars in my collection, it will be outfitted with Kadee couplers and Intermountain scale wheels.
Paradise and Pacific did a special run of Weaver tank cars for the 25th anniversary back in 2000. They had several cars left, so I bought a set. These will get the Kadee/Intermountain treatment.

My first actual Williams engine and rolling stock Crown Editions. The paint finish on these are great. Along with a Weaver caboose. Really like the Sharknose Diesels! Along with the Delaware and Hudson paint scheme. When I first ran these I finally understand why the motors need to be rewired in series. What a difference! And super easy to do. Runs so much better and slower.

Ahhhh… the D&H - now you’ve gone down a deep rabbit hole, Donnie. And the sharks are sharp (just ask Bob @RSJB18 ). From experience I can tell you Alco PA’s in D&H livery are also gorgeous!!! You may wish to review/add to this thread

Great thread! I actually had the Lionel MPC D&H diesel a while back. I've currently ran out of room with all my recent acquisitions. No longer will I allow you gentlemen to be a bad influence... 😂. Yeah right... To be continued.
MNot a fan of Alco's normally, but In my opinion, there isn't a prettier Diesel then the Alco PA, no matter what the livery
