So my Weaver SD 40-2 arrived yesterdaycamera download 051416 242camera download 051416 241

Pretty nice, I need to make a little repair where the front handrail attached to the frame, that little piece snapped off so I need to do something about it.  My big issue is I don't run ATSF and need to convert this to some other road.  My favorite is Alaska RR but I don't think they rostered any SD 40-2s.  So if I go that route since it would be a total fantasy engine I could go with a fantasy scheme to avoid a complete re-paitn.  Maybe just repaint the red to blue and have an ARR blue-bonnet.  Or just do something with the heralds and road number and make it a lease unit. Decisions, decisions.  AMC DAve What do you think?

I LIKE that loco!!! I hated that scheme when it came out....then the merger failed and made it worse. Now time has made it kinda cool.  Great looker at any rate!!

Repaint??? I don't know if I could.....but if you are and want a Alaska unit go for it.  I'd remove the SF and numbers....soften the paint break lines and prime with #1699 Dupli-color. Then start with the Alaska paint.

I just got mine yesterday and these photos don't do them justice. Way too big to use on a layout, as I guess they're about 1/30 scale or maybe just a bit larger.
Mauldin
From King and Country, an Asian outfit making metal painted toy soldiers. As a Mauldin collector, I simply HAD to get them. I've discussed this with Mauldin Biographer Todd DePastino, and he agreed with my assumption that the family didn't sign off on these at all.

And for those of you wondering why I had to have them, just watch this video, from which you might recognize the talking head guy...

Lee, Great buy and a great time to share them with us. Also loved the video, but then its hard not to with a great buy like Mauldin and a US Marine telling the story!

You sure know how to put a smile on people Thank You for your Service!

Gilly;

As a born and raised Brooklynite, nothing beats Nathan's (but it has to be from the Coney Island location... it just doesn't taste the same from any of the other locations, although I haven't been back there since they were damaged in superstorm Sandy). And having lived in NE Pennsylvania for the last 21 years, I do enjoy the occasional Yuengling - gotta get down to the brewery in Pottsville one of these days. Do you know where the Nathan's car came from???

You did notice the other guy on that clip beside Gunny Ermey, right?

Lee, I did and I was very impressed! I never knew about him! Thanks again!

Went to the Greenberg Show in Monroeville this AM and came home with $$ in my wallet an some nice train items plus a bag of GI stuff for my 1/6 scale M5 Stuart tank. Very happy with what I bought so it was a good show.  Picked up a Lionel "General" engine and tender in very good shape and it runs good. Cost only $25, the only flaw is a corner of the cab is broken off but I have the piece to glue on. I have a General but it is really beat up. Also got a Lionel 33 that runs good for $100 which I think was pretty good. Have a better shell but might go with the original in spite of some missing paint.  Got a Lionel standard gauge  gondola in the 100 series with hook couplers. All this stuff was on my bucket list so I am satisfied.  There are more shows but I am running out of  spendable dollars so I might hold off for awhile.

Lee, it looks you went to Colorado instead of a train show with all those bags of green

I live in WA state, where pot is legal as well. I have zero interest in that, though... but yeah, I thought of that when I took that photo, as well.

I was at the Train show yesterday and there was a dealer there with some really nice military models on train cars and they looked like O gauge. Thought of p51 when I saw them. Didn't see a name on them, they were in clear plastic boxes.  Really looked cool but I am not in to the military stuff, mostly because they tend to be expensive.

Did you happen to he at the Puyallup, WA show? There was a vendor there selung just what you described. his stuff was 3 rail and standard gauge, something I have zero need of. however, I bought those Menards trees from the same guy.

I picked this NYC Early Bird boxcar at a local shop a couple of days ago. I don't have a layout right now and can't wait to get into our new house so I can see it running on the rails.

NYC Early Bird

Joe,

Well I guess I do have too many boxcars.  I thought I had never seen the Early Bird before.  Yet, I was looking through what I have for the new layout and saw I have one also!  Now I remember, new old stock.  Mine says built in 2005.

All that to say, you made an excellent choice!  :-)

On Sunday, I went to a train show in Redford, MI (mainly to help the FMRC display their layout) and I hit the jackpot. I encountered an MTH Premier Amtrak Phase V Genesis (#180) that someone was selling (with four Premier Phase IV Amfleets, but I didn't buy those, because I already have four RailKing Phase IV Amfleets), both for $150. I've been searching for that engine for years (okay, maybe just a couple) and had no luck until now (mainly because only 100 models were produced, uncatalogued) I do own the WBB Amtrak Phase Genesis AA set, but the hue of the blue color is more teal than blue, and it has the emergency strobes on top by the windshield. Plus, the True Blast II sounds only give a really annoyingly loud bell, no engine sounds, and a canned horn that does the grade crossing sequence, nothing else. I'm aware WBB released a newer model with True Blast Plus sounds (they're good, actually), but I still don't like the exterior of their Genesis units. I might sell them.

Complaints aside, I'm very pleased with what I picked up for such a great price for such a rare locomotive. The battery was low when I bought it, so I had to recharge it via letting it sit on my track for a bit.

P.S, does anyone know how to easily swap sounds between MTH ProtoSound 2.0 and 3.0? I want #180 to have the sounds my RailKing Amtrak Phase II Heritage Genesis #66 has as it's a lot more prototypical.

Great finds Lee. Just wondering where was the train show?

Kent, WA. It was the annual Boeing employee model RR club's sale.

I've only gone to a few of these over the years but each time I've gone, I've seen a bunch of good stuff each time.
