Joe I have been busy on the ASSA Shop. I am trying to decide what type of exterior the Shop should have. I really like the looks of your building. However my time period is more of a Steam and diesel  and I will have a brick Roundhouse near this D iesel Shop. I also have a Grain Silo Complex near this ABBA Shop and it has a brick loading/unloading building that I will post below. So I am leaning towards the Brick exterior.I need to get Alan's thoughts also.

I also like the floor that you put into your shop/ But my leed tracks to the Shop are both running on an angle and I have concerns about getting the track io match up to a slot and false fllor so I may have bo floor in the shop. The Shop will sit away from the walking area and on an angle so you really won't see into the Shopvery well if at all.I will try to post some of the drawing later in this thread.

Bill, you know that buildings can be any style you want to fit that time period you're capturing. They are always a mix of styles and materials. As mine is current, the floor is to model a concrete slab. It's just tempered masonite in two layers. It's tough to nail the track spikes in so I predrilled them. Your's could just be cut around the track.

So it could be curved. That would just make the job a little tougher to build. Now days there are a lot of building types. Brick ones still in service with modern ones going up. There are combination pole barn types that have metal clading, that would allow for even a stone floor?? I've not seen them used for railroads. Those are usually built more permanent and better. Remember mine is actually a model of a fueling shed that I turned into a service shed. It's my RR!!! So make the floor solid and stone on the end if you want?

I used corrugated plastic sign board. You could use whatever you have available and adapt it. I made my own trusses and connected them together to simulate a modern steel type building. I just caulked the siding on. I don't know what the big deal was as I just threw it together. As I look around, I realize how much a big building like that would actually cost. Joe

Joe thanks for the pictures of the Mag article showing the CN conversion.

The ABBA Shopnwill take a lot of room in mt Engine service area. I think I like your picture if the shop where you have the lights on and the smoke in the air inside the building. That is a very cool pictutr. I also like the view along the side of your shop with all the outside lights on. VERY NICE.

I need to think about two main items on my shop. Outside finish and floor or no floor.

Thanks for your thoughts, I need to do some hard thinking on it.

I also have a 12 Stall Diesel Shop for my other Diesels to build. It will sit right across from the ABBA Shop and it looks like the drawing above that Frank posted.

FRANK, THANKS FOR THE PICTURES. THESE SHOPS IN THE PICTURES WILL LOOK MORE LIKE MY 12 STALL SHOP FOR MY SD/GP/ES44/DASH8/DASH9/S-2 ALL CN&GTW AND THAT  YOU HAD SEEN WHEN IT WAS A 10 STALLER.

The ATSF ABBA SHOP THAT i HAVE SHOWN ABOVE IS FOR MY F-3RED/SILVER,F-3 YELLOW/SILVER/F-3 BLUE/YELLOW,E-6 RED/SILVER,E-7 RED.SILVER,E-8 RED/SILVER, ALL ATSF

Mt Diesel shop is for my CN/GTW ABBA units of F-2,F-3,F-7,PA,FM WILL BE HADE UP OF MY TRAIN SHEDS. SO all 3 Diesel shops will look quite different.

Thanks for all your help

Paul, Thank you. I think MTH did a GREAT JOB on these units. I have 8 of them all powered. 2 of them have been repainted into the GTW HERITAGE LOOK.

The section of layout they are running on is about 8x24. We are working on the next phase of the layout which is about 6'x42'. The 3rd phase will be about 16'x18'. The finished layout will be sort of an upside down "L"+ a near square 16'X18' SHAPE.

The refinery is on the left end  of the layout. followed by an elevated passenger terminal with train sheds and then a steel mill.

A village is in the jog up in the "T".

Above the shops are Grain Silos, Power Plant and Coal Mine.

Where it says 18' will be an Auto plannt.

Shops area will have 2 Roundhouses (12&6 stall) and 3 Diesel shops.

The stacked yards are 5 levels.

Thanks for your question.

Willian 1, Hope you run across them again. However your pictures were very good. I had to look up Lake Villa on the map and I see it is very close to the il/wi line. and just West of I-94. I have only seen 1 of the BLUE CN's in my area and I was not fast enough to get a picture of it. Thanks again for your pictures.
