Update on buying exclusive Lionel Store items: Another person informed me they won't charge credit card until the item "comes in." I really wish they'd spell this out somewhere on their site...I have to say for mid-size company Lionel's website leaves something to be desired.

Paul I 100% agree.  I have been trying to figure this out since the 2024 Engine of the Year is an interest to me.

Happy Thursday OGR!

We love seeing comments about the 2024 Lionel Catalog. Thanks for tagging our team regarding to the pre-order process and potential confusion. The Lionelstore.com website does not charge a customers credit card until the order is shipped.

Again, we appreciate the feedback and will update our website with copy at checkout to make that information clearer for the customers.

Have a great week and be sure to stop by and see the team on January 27th - 28th at the Railroad Hobby Show! (Mallory Building)

Thank you for setting it straight!  Much appreciated!

Thanks, Lionel...as I breathe a sigh of relief. I had ordered the blue plasma Polar Express the other day based on my 2nd correspondence from Lionel...was a bit confusing and this clears it up. Had they billed me for the balance it would've taken me about 4-6 months to pay that puppy off...all the while interest would accrue...at 28.99%. I for one hope those PE Berks take a while to be made and delivered...selfish of me to say that, but I and I suspect many others need time to save our pennies...and a lot of pennies it will be!

I have comments regarding new products and the decisions that led to this year’s Christmas offerings that are not Polar Express

I collect North Pole Central.   I have almost two dozen pieces of rolling stock and a couple of locomotives

I was wondering why Lionel paired the LionChief FT diesel with the post war style streamlined passenger cars instead of the using the more size appropriate streamlined cars used in the Santa Fe Super Chief and Texas Special sets.  Those smaller cars should be separate sale or mated to the new LionChief Prairie in Christmas livery.  That steam locomotive is closer in size to the cars than the FT.   To me this seems like have done the opposite of what’s both logical and appropriate.   Additionally, I don’t understand the minimization of decoration on the separate sale streamlined passenger cars.  It’s been a long time since non-scale Christmas passenger cars were offered that are not Polar Express.  While I applaud the inclusion of these cars the decoration or lack there of leaves me stumped.  For the past few catalogs Lionel’s Christmas offerings have had subtle, yet attractive accents like the snowflakes on last year’s models. It makes no sense to omit those seasonal touches from the new cars.

I was visiting another city and drove clear across town to get my pink paws on a fantastic catalog that just HAD to have something l want..... Nope, just one reefer of mild interest. Gee, a blank Sears catalog wish book.  I hate to pick one up when car dealers have stopped printing expensive catalogs, and l usually am right that l will find nothing of interest

@Dave Olson just to clarify, per Ryan on Trainworld's catalog show, all Hiawatha models will now have safety valve steam effect instead of whistle steam due to them having an air horn as the primary signal, except for the Christmas Version will still have whistle steam, correct?

Maybe Dave is busy.  Can @Official Lionel Trains just verify this for anyone purchasing the Hiawatha engines?  Not sure everyone caught the Train World Show, although I'd recommend it.

Question: This loco has a “Single motor”. Does this set up with one motor have enough pulling power?

I guess it depends on what you are planning to pull.  A switcher usually isn't loaded up with cars but just moving them around the yards.   I do know folks like to operate them pretty much like any other train so even then what would that be in number of cars?  I believe the last few runs of these engines have all been single motors as well.

Hi Marty: I have seven switchers on my layout. MTH, Williams & LionChief & LionChief Plus. They all have two motors. I was surprised to see the description of one motor. This being a Legacy you would think they would have two motors. Coming out of my yards I go into a 2% uphill grade. Maybe the single motor is larger in power output.

While these switchers have one motor, the motors they have are larger than the motors used in the dual motor locomotives.  This results in a lower speed, but higher torque, and that low speed operation enables to have a smooth as glass movement at very low value speeds on your remote.  All wheels are powered too.

Hi Joe: Thanks for the information. Having power to all wheels is good news.

Happy Valentine's to all the train fans on OGR! We wanted to be sure to provide clarity around the thread discussing the Hiawatha Engines in the 2024 Lionel Vol I Catalog. Please see below from one of our in-house experts.

“The information presented on TW Live is correct.  With the prototype not having a steam whistle, we have switched the smoke effect on the Hiawathas to safety valve steam.  Sounds will include three air horns and also two steam whistles for variety.  The Christmas set will retain whistle steam and sounds will be a mixture of steam whistles and our special Christmas sounds.  Thank you.”

Have a great day!

Awesome. You might want to update the online catalog information to reflect this if you haven’t already . Thank you for responding.
