Anybody want 3rd rail Alco FA’s in NdeM for the Aztec Eagle? With all the heavyweights being offered in NdeM these might be great motive power https://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth28636/ They are seen here.

I’d like it. 😜
I earlier mentioned this / proposed in some forum (I can’t remember where) and the response was deafening crickets. Perhaps it was premature for a NdeM diesel and especially in a slow to mature Alco FA offering.
Things change. There’s growing NdeM interest. I’d Still like to see !!! Worth an email to Scott ….. but it may be too late to add another diesel.🫢
The number on the pic is correct and is FA2 (as documented by Wikipedia). It would be nice to have other views and some color pix.
Here’s some More info for DJ’s link (streamlinermemories.info)

after receiving the Eagle & now we’re getting heavyweights. We need some motive power! I’m sure I’m not the only one that missed both F3 boats. 🙃 hopefully it’s not too late, but I know these are going into production soon. It’s a long shot but, fingers crossed.

Just talked with Scott. Adding NdeM Looks promising !!! Your color photos Very Helpful !!!!!!! 😜
Thank You …. Stay tuned !!! 😉 And remember - Numbers Count !!!!!!! Spread the word !!!

Awesome news! I’ll be watching. I’ll do a pullman green A&B & if offered the red & black A unit.
https://www.thedieselshop.us/AlcoFA2.HTML
all NdeM FA-2 & FB-2 cab #’s can be found here. I sent it to Scott
If anyone is interested - Scott’s posted real production photos of the SD40-2s. The MP model is a real beauty !!!!
I can't do both paint schemes but would definitely do one of them. I much prefer the Pullman Green over the red and black, but I would buy either one.
On a slight unrelated note; I'd like to see a train of the Swiss streamlined coaches. Between the Superliners and heavyweights it would have to be a couple years away, but it would be cool.
Scott has posted the NdeM Alco FA B2 on the 3rd Rail web page for reservations - dark green with red stripe.
Nice “pot stirring “ DJ !!!!!!! 👍👍👍
NOW …….
Time for NdeM fans to STEP UP !!! We still need adequate #s of reservations for this to fly !!!!!!!!!
Last Call 🫣🤔😮.
E7 reservations close April 15.
MP AB in Eagle and Jenks blue paint.
T&P A in Eagle and Jenks blue paint.
Cheers 😉
Does anyone know how NdeM ran the Alco units on their passenger trains? Was it A-B-A or A-B, or a different configuration? I'm trying to find out before I place my reservations.

The Few pix I’ve seen show either a single “A” or what appears to be an “AB”. If you like “ABA”, do that. You can always have 2 trains - one “AB” and a second “A”.
Look at this list from Wikipedia for NdeM FA2. (I had to patch this together) GGD is doing the FA2 for NFM.
That’s a lot of “B” units. There’s even the possibility of “ABB” being run.
Looks like Lots of Possibilities !!!!
Have Fun - Your Way 😉

I went slightly nuts on E7’s 2 T&P, 2 NYC beauty queens, 1 B&O

Yah me too. It’s tough with MP, T&P, AND Jenks all at once !!! 🫢😳
I’m in for MP AB, MP JENKS A, T&P A, (and for good measure a Frisco Meteor). That’s it for now because waiting in the Q is the Alco FA with MP, Frisco, and NdeM. 😮🫣 It’s a case of “be careful of what you wish for” !!!!!!!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

Me too DJ! Me too! Split mine up between UP, MP, TP, IC, Seaboard and Southern. Hope to see a future run to get more of the offerings.

Step Up Time folks for those MP, T&P units !!!!! 😜🙂😉Don’t ignore those JENKS Units either ……. Because ……in the same note he Announces a Future Run of MP JENKS Cars AND some Additional NEW cars for the Texas Eagle that were not done in Run 1 !!!!!!! Can’t have those Jenks diesels without cars to go with them !!!!!!!!! 😮🫢 😉😉
But wait - there’s more.
Plastic Heavyweights are being Q’d for a new run. MP and T&P will be in the mix. Let Scott know which cars you’ll want to see. I’d like to see included MP and TP modernized baggage cars (think mail / express / secondary trains) and coaches for sure.Lots coming down the pike !!!!!!

Last minute E7 reservation guidance.
MP Has “B” units, T&P NO “B” units
Know this for Future E8 offering
Neither had E8 “B” units.
Last chance for “B” units.
Eagle and Jenks paint schemes frequently were seen mixed together. IMO this makes for an interesting diverse consist. Passenger cars with E and J paint were mixed too.
Cheers😉
E7s were a big order for me too. :-/ I'm in for a MOPAC AB pair as well as a bunch of miscellaneous units to make pairs and ABAs with other engines I already have.
It's the next PA re-run that's really gonna hurt, though . . .
I see E7 reservations are now Closed. Stand-by reservations accepted now.
@Blue Streak posted:Jonathan,
I look forward to seeing what numbers you pic for the Mopac and T&P. I ordered 10 units. 2 Mopac A-B, 2 T&P A-A, 1 T&P Jenks A, 2 MKT Tx Special A-A, 1 Frisco Meteor A, and because I bought the latest 1948 20th century set a year or so ago a NYC A-B to pull the cars. Glad the FA got pushed to next year as I am in for Mopac, Frisco and MKT.
I want to mix my Mopac/T&P E7's and E8's. And also Jenks with Eagle so I just don't want the same numbers. Another plug for Mopac 7012A-B.
Also, Trainbub I got your email of 7012. Is that from a book it looks familiar? I have several in books and see many online of 7012. Go 7012!!!!!!!
Joe
Hi Joe,
The 7012 pic I sent you may or may not be published. It was provided to me by a friend in the MPHS to show me roof color definition. Bottom line - the roof is Eagle Blue and Eagle Roof Grey. Often, the exhausts are / look dark. That is either shadows or soot. The pic shows the nature of the vents as it is a nose - on pic and you can see the vents from a cross sectional point of view.
Scott typically does multiple #s of engines. I believe it can be driven by the person that orders the largest number of a given diesels / road. MP and T&P had a Lot of units. Most MPs were AB #ed together - but there were some with no corresponding B #s. T&P had no B s. Then there’s the Jenks renumbering. Every engine got renumbered. T&P is pretty straightforward. MP …. Well, you’ll need a scorecard to “understand”. The B #ing gets Wonky. A to B numbering doesn’t match except for one. It’s just the way it was done. Their logic sure isn’t mine.😖
Hopefully, care will be taken to make sure an order doesn’t deliver the same engines just with different paint /numbers.
For example-
7012, 7012B /Eagle paint = 21, 16B /Jenks. You won’t want these pairs of numbered diesels together —-> they are the same engines.
You can reference all this numbering in either
Missouri Pacific Diesel Power by EuDaly, pg. 42 or
The Missouri Pacific Lines in Color by Collias, pgs. 136,138.
These are two Key Must Have MP, T&P reference books IMO.
Cheers 😉
Trainbub,
You are totally right on the cab numbers. In my hurry to post and get back to work I had forgotten about the 1962 renumbers. I guess because this will really be my first repainted passenger engine - I try to stick to the 50's. In Steve Goen's book I see Jenks paint with original numbers, Eagle with new numbers, etc. I am sure that can be seen in many of my books if I took the time to look. It also Looks like it took a few years to complete paint & renumber. So the single digits will be fine 1-10. I plan on running these in the era of about 1962-1963. Also hope the Jenks cars can be bought as individuals so I can mix them with my Eagle paint. If I was not such a T&P fan I would not be adventuring out of my time era. Hey I did get 2 Mopac SD40-2's What the he__!
Joe
@TrainBub posted:FYI - few Eagle Sets and cars remain. 🫣🫢It’s Actually a bit less than what’s shown on the GGD webpage as I’ve picked up a 3rail TP 5BR- Lounge, Coach, and Set. I found two others to split the set with me. Splitting a set is a good way to add some extra cars. I was able to add some TP to my MP cars.
Just a reminder - car Numbers and Names for cars in MP vs T&P sets Are Different. And in each road, there were sets A and B. Names and numbers Are Also Different in A and B. (An exception being the T&P Dome car - there was Only one number so it is found in set A and B.)Cheers 😉
TrainBub,
I sent you an email regarding these cars.
FYI
Work on coming MP and T&P E7s is coming along nicely. These models are getting attention in this run of E7s as they have not been done by 3rd Rail before. Side by side differences evidence evolving owner preferences and desired “necessities”. The later simplified Jenks blue color was about “maintenance”. The early Eagle painted version was quite sleek. The later Jenks version became (IMHO) more functional. The skirt over the fuel and water tanks was removed - I guess for better access / it sure wasn’t as nice looking. Plentiful !!! Grab handles appeared on the Jenks E7. It must have become obvious accessibility on the engine was difficult without them. I venture a guess though - there were too many injuries with workers falling off so the grabs were added.
The Eagle and Jenks models make for nice comparisons and perhaps demonstrate a transition from one era to another.
The plan is to have a run of Jenks cars a bit down the road. (Let Scott Know you are waiting for the Jenks passenger car offering via email !!!) In transition, diesels and cars ran with mixed paint schemes.
If you’ve failed to get your reservation in for these E7s, I suggest placing a standby reservation as there’s sometimes a buyer that backs out.
Cheers 😉
Those interested in NdeM passenger cars and who bought NdeM sleepers in the Eagle run should check out this link to a website that lists the disposition of New York Central lightweight (streamlined) passenger cars:
https://www.canadasouthern.com...ODELS-PASS-LIGHT.htm
If you search for “NdeM” you will get 88 hits! NdeM purchased 88 streamlined passenger cars from the New York Central in the 1950’s and early 1960’s, including nearly the entire 1938-1940 20th Century Limited in the 1950’s! Since that is a train that Golden Gate Depot will be reissuing, it would be great to get those cars offered in NdeM paint. It looks like NdeM bought the diners, several of the observation cars, and most, if not all, of the various types of sleepers.
Is there an OGR thread on the Golden Gate Depot 20th Century Limited reissue? If so, we should add the NdeM information there. If we could just get the 20th Century diner, observation, and a couple of the sleepers in NdeM paint, we would have a pretty much complete late 1950’s NdeM train with the GGD NdeM heavyweight coaches that are coming. That train could be the Aztec Eagle with a MP or T&P sleeper or two added to it.
Send an email to Scott Mann at Golden Gate Depot if you want NdeM extra cars offered as part of the 20th Century Limited reissue!

Jtrain / Awesome cross-post from your post in my National Ltd thread !!! I was just getting ready to ask you to flip it here to the Eagle thread.
Excellent reference !!! First step is identifying cars sold off to NdeM. Next - which are being done in the GGD 20th century run, and which are appropriate for the Aztec Eagle. We will need the NdeM car names too. There can be synergy in offerings because of common car designs. Perhaps this coattails on the NYC offering as the NYC reservations will far exceed NdeM.
Let’s see…….. Scott will be interested in this.
Cheers 😉

Yes! I just sent Scott an email. If you check that link that I provided, it lists all of the individual lightweight passenger cars sold by the New York Central to NdeM. The key thing is it looks like NdeM bought several observation cars, the diners, and several sleeper types (maybe all of them-I need to review the list in detail) from the 1938-1940 Century train that GGD is offering. That would put us close to a fairly complete NdeM train and may be our best chance to get one.
Does anyone have a good reference publication for the NdeM passenger trains? I have seen many photos showing the ex-NYC cars on NdeM trains, but information is scarce on the NdeM passenger train operations. I imagine that it varied quite a bit, so I would think that if we could get the ex-NYC observation, a diner (the Century used 2 of them in a train but I would think NdeM probably used them individually), and a couple of sleepers, that would give us a prototypical consist with the coming GGD NdeM postwar heavyweight coaches.
One of my MP passenger train books (I forget which one), says that the MP diner/lounge from the Texas Eagle that had run through from San Antonio to Mexico City was pulled from the Aztec Eagle after a few years in the 1950’s when NdeM purchased streamlined diners and lounges. I imagine that those must have been the ex-NYC diners and observation-lounge cars.
I’m in for NdeM heavyweights and I would reserve a NdeM diner, obs, and a sleeper or two from the 20th century limited, if Scott does them. I regret not adding a NdeM sleeper to my Eagle order. Hope it happens.

That would pretty much give you a complete NdeM passenger train right there! Maybe add a heavyweight baggage car, perhaps GGD might offer those in NdeM when they reissue the remaining heavyweights?
The train could be pulled by the 3rd Rail NdeM F3’s if you have those or the Lionel NdeM Centipede from a few years ago, if you have/can find one of those. I have 2 of them and they are nice! There are photos of both pulling NdeM passenger trains. The Lionel Centipede is in the later NdeM paint scheme from the late 1950’s and 1960’s. The 3rd Rail F3 is in the earlier NdeM paint scheme which I believe lasted to the late 1950’s, so they both would be prototypically correct.

Very nice! I don’t have the F3’s and that Lionel centipede I would imagine is near impossible to find. I’m sure Lionel will eventually do another run. Scott is offering NdeM FA-2’s and they pulled passenger consists. I’ll reserve the FA-2’s and also wait and see if Lionel offers centipedes again in the coming years.

I forgot about the NdeM FA locomotives. Thanks for the reminder. The Lionel NdeM centipedes do show up for resale from time to time. I have seen a few for sale at various times after I purchased mine. The other Lionel centipede that I have is the Seaboard version, which seems more rare. But all Lionel locomotives are “findable” when compared to 3rd Rail diesels!
Anyone building an Aztec Eagle or just collecting NdeM should reserved the 3rd Rail FA. This FA offering has taken a long time to finally get to a threshold of being issued. You won’t want to miss it. And Odds are no one else will ever do this diesel.
Cheers 😉

Doing a bit more cross-referencing research, there are 10 more ex-NYC streamlined cars that were sold to Edwards International, many (or all?) that went to NdeM (it looks like Edwards was a broker?). This includes ex-NYC 6 Bedroom/Lounge “Genessee Falls” for sure, and perhaps others in that class. It would be nice to get that car in NdeM, but it looks like that car is not part of the GGD Century reissue. So, as many as 98 total streamlined cars went to NdeM from the NYC.
It looks like the cars that GGD has listed in the 1938-1940 20th Century Limited reissue that were sold to NdeM in the 1950’s are the following five:
Observation
Diner
13 Double Bedroom Sleeper
4-4-2 Sleeper
10-5 Sleeper
These are the cars that could/should be offered as NdeM extra cars on the 1938-1940 20th Century Limited reservation list.

Coverage will include the Aztec Eagle, but it will begin from 1961. I would like to know about the 1950’s too. Does anyone know of any other reference books on Mexican passenger trains and equipment?

Oooo this will be a welcomed book !!! I have not seen that this is coming.
There is an earlier out of print Book on Mexican rail - I think also by Morning Sun. It’s usually see for $100 or more. I don’t have it.
Morning sun books are good on pictures but can be short on details.
The TRRA has issued a good book on the Aztec Eagle (I think noted earlier in this thread ?) and is still in print directly from them. It still leaves me with lots questions. Still, a good reference.
Cheers, 😉
