I put in a bcr my proto 2 steamer and let it charge for 1 minute in the power on but no commands given. Then I ran it an no problems except that when I kill the power to the track I do not get and shutdown sounds like the rechargeable does. Is this a defective bcr or is that how they are supposed to work?

You should get the shut down sounds with the BCR installed. I do.

ironlake2,
Try a normal shut down and see what happens, it should actually work exactly the same as with the rechargeable batteries.

Normal shutdown won't test the BCR since track power is still available. Are you sure the BCR is connected to the PS-2 board? If so and it doesn't charge, either BCR is defective or the PS-2 charge circuit. G
Isn't there a command to check the charging system (not the battery itself, just the charging function) to see if it's working or not?

I have this problem with one of my steamers, currently playing pending a three month repair.

Only because you didn't send it to GGG.
