@Alex M- WOW! the roundhouse looks great. Please share pix when it's on the layout.
@Genemed- Ballast looks good. I used the same method on fastrack.
@Steamfan77- nice additional details. The turntable looks great.

Wow.....just caught up from the weekend.......lots of fabulous stuff.
Here is my structure-building update......
The fact that my Ross Transfer Table will be here this week, dictated my next project.......the TW TrainWorx Yard Office.
The TT control pad goes inside, under the "pull out" roof....
I decided this winter, that even though the basic layout infrastructure wasn't up, I would build up my kits with the hope that it might be easier to envision where they will go with them being built....
Since February, I've built five structures.....one (the Korber Sand House & Tower) for the modular layout.
The four structures for my layout are stored here.......waiting for a place to be.....
Here is the Korber kit I built for the modular layout.....
Here are most of the kits that I have stored up over the years......I need to make a decision on which one next.......
I also have another Korber Sand House & Tower to do for my layout....and, a pile of parts for kit-bashes.......but, I'll need to see how the track plan falls out 1st.
The Modular Group is busy with layout upgrades every Wednesday......once that is done, the crew will come here to help me motorize the Mianne Lift Gate and cut/lay down the plywood.......then, I can really get to work......
......and, I can't believe how much fun retirement is!!!!!!
Peter
@Putnam Division Peter glad to hear you're enjoying retirement! I'm sure you earned it.
The buildings look great.
Alex, the roundhouse looks fantastic!
Peter, I thoroughly enjoyed building the Oblong Box Company kit. You have a lot of great options, that’s a nice problem to have 😉
Thank you Bob!
Andy
I haven't done much for my layout recently as I’ve been focused on getting my WW2 jeep running again. This is due to it being silent since the pandemic began, as well as dealing with the new puppy we got this past weekend:
That said, by now many members of this forum know of my photo in the newest issue, which is a preview for an article on military railroads which will run in the fall.
I think it'll give some new ideas within the hobby, and a topic I've never seen addressed in the hobby press before in this manner. I hope you all like it when that runs.

Looking forward to your article Lee. Your layout is one of my favs. Cute pup too!
@Putnam Division- A nice problem to have Peter. So many buildings, and so much free time in retirement.....Let me guess, you are busier now than when you were working.......
Bob
Hello everyone,
Would like to thank
Leapinlarry, Dave, Bob, Andy, and Lee for the kind words !
Bob If i can get a few pictures of it on the layout , i will certainly post them here.
As always i don't have much time to see everyone's work , but when i do what i see is outstanding !
Thanks, Alex
@p51 Lee- Since you said you were working on your Jeep. I saw a vintage Willy's (50's ?) cruising down the Long Island Expressway last Sunday. Couldn't take a pic since I was driving but the smile (and Marine camo hat) on the driver spoke volumes!

Hey Y'all,
I put new wire on a UCS controller and then hooked it up for use with a milk platform. I now have wired four out of eight UCS tracks. I made up my favorite consist, The 4501 Mikado pulling four "Southern Crescent" passenger cars. I wanted to wire two O22 switches in the engine yard but at 102 degrees, I had to go to the big house. It's cooler now after some rain so the excursion to Birmingham can continue. Birmingham is the home of the Summer Olympic Games. I have now rebuilt 66% of my layout. The third level will wait a while. All the fine work on this forum keeps me inspired. Thanks Y'all.

Alex. Super job on the roundhouse. What type or lights are you going to install. I made the mistake of not using bright enough lights on mine. People really like to see those locos through the windows during night time scenes.

Farmerjohn, I agree, Alex M did a fantastic job on his roundhouse build, great lighting, great coloration of the sides and roof, very nice, however, your 10 stall roundhouse is built really well, the unique opening/closing doors a crowd pleaser, also your weathered millhouse turntable bed and bridge are awesome. Your complete scene is jaw dropping. You can upgrade your lighting if you wish to. This is Farmerjohns roundhouse area. Happy Railroading Everyone
Excellent progress everyone!
This weekend I laid the basic ground cover on one of my inclines for track 1 and the area between track 2 and the retaining wall as well as ballasted the incline. Doesn't look like much but it sure took a while. Did I ever say I really dislike ballasting?

Thank-you! Apologies for the picture quality - it makes it look like there's ballast all over the ties..lol Eventually, I will weather the ties and paint the rails. I may even do the same to the ballast as Dennis Brennan shows in his book.

Greg and all the likers: many thanks. I think the front roof contour is off but someday I may give it another try. Cheers.
Just finished trimming and painting 35 tunnel portals. Those Scenic Express foam portals are the best for fitment. Little by little I am progressing.
Looks like Batman hangs out at the Red Owl.
Slow progress - the burr oak is filled out to my satisfaction. The lodge is getting there. Have to add a sign to the top middle and lighting inside. Thinking about dormers, but can't work out the dimensions as yet. The base is just cotton batting painted brown over pink foam board. I'll have to weather the roof to reduce the shine and add a little more landscaping.
It’s coming along nicely, Jeff!

Testing out a new type of paint that Dennis Brennan recommends for some wood parts on the Oblong Box Company.......
Minwax Amercian Walnut, water-based......I have used Minwax paints before, but previously only the oil-based ones.
The water-based ones come in quarts and have to be mixed.....
Anyone use this kind of paint before? It seems to dry nicely.....

I use water based stains all the time Peter. It is comparable to the oil based with less fumes and easier cleanup.
I’ve used Minwax water based stain on projects but not modeling. Always turned out nice.

Thank you........I have a can of oil-based dark walnut which I use as a substitute for railroad tie brown......but I avoid using it!

I try and avoid any of the oil based products now. The water based are just as good and not dealing with cleaning brushes, storage, and disposal, is less hassle.
And to think, I use to clean my hands with turpentine......

@Randy Harrison posted:Here is a tip on making water scenes with rippled shower glass or randomly rippled sheet acrylic which is what I use.
Where would one get a piece of rippled shower glass or rippled acrylic?
I have bridges spanning two tables and thought about making a water canal/river beneath the bridges. Maybe add a tug boat or something. Probably need a piece about 1.5ft x 5ft.
And to think, I use to clean my hands with turpentine......
I bet that you drank water from a hose too. 😱
