Lionel sent the info to dealers.
Lionel seemed to be paying attention to demand/secondary prices when they decided to rerelease the Vision Big Boy. That same reasoning makes me think they’ll catalog scale Berkshires to capture what appears to be high demand for the scale Polar Express. If they do, I’d like to see a NKP #779.
lionel has been doing alot of train sets based around TV and movies and 2023 just happens to be 30 years since the premiere of "Boy Meets World" from 1993
lionel could whip up a Boy Meets World lionchief set with announcements from Topanga and if i'm not mistaken there was a train related episode
I would really like Lionel to complete the American Freedom Train cars, hopefully that will happen soon!

That would be a cool train set for Lionel to model. And, if I am not mistaken, this past year they borrowed a couple UP SD units for one of their U.S. excursions as either they didn’t have power to run their own or their crews were trained on the UP route. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.
Either way, Lionel may have the tooling to pull this set off.

I Agree. I have been trying to get hobby shops to run custom runs of trailers or trailer on flat car , but no one is interested . I really would like these made. Anyone back me up.Never done in O Scale

I would like to see Lionel produce for 2023 Lionchief 2.0 SD 40 , SD45 , Sharknose and FA models in the 400 to 500 range . Not too detailed but good enough for running scale trains. By next year we’ll be looking at 700 dollar sd40 and 1200 shark and FA sets .

Yes, the Red Rocks route has ex UP SD70Ms since the GP40s weren't PTC compliant originally. I believe 2 GP40s have since been assigned to the Red Rocks route. Either way, this would be an awesome set. Still kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on the MTH set. I did the Vancouver to Banff trip this past spring and it was amazing. Definitely want to do the Red Rocks trip in the near future.

Me too. Even though I have a layout with no curves less than O72, I like the 18" passenger cars far more than the 21" cars. In fact, I have sold all of my 21" cars.

I hope it’s not too soon for them to possibly make a brass hybrid Berkshire. I’ve been wanting an O scale C&O Kanawha for years and the MTH one is borderline impossible to find. If they use the brass hybrid method, they could potentially make a correct C&O Kanawha (front end, cowcatcher, dome placement, and longer tender), hopefully with the correct sounds as well. With 2716 being restored, it would be perfect. I can think of at least a few variations of 2716 alone, in addition to some other Kanawhas for people who want a regular C&O Kanawha (maybe 2755 or 2789?), and likely a Virginian Class BA Berkshire as well. They could potentially make a correct Polar Express engine as well (no marker lights/number boards, removed feedwater heater, recessed headlight), and I hope they finally make one with white lettering to match the movie as well.
I am once again hoping for a Lionchief J class. As long as it's not another reuse of older MTH tooling like the Pennsy S-2 Turbine we had earlier this year.
I'm hoping the few offerings for Moguls in the last catalog portends a larger selection in this next one.
I'd love to see a New Haven mogul, using the arched window cab tooling that Lionel has for the B&M versions. The cabs are separate pieces on these engines, so applying the arched window cab to the closest boiler variant should be trivial.
If Lionel added the arched cab to what Mr. Muffins has depicted for his NYO&W special run (with (1) the bell between the sand and steam domes, (2) boiler centered headlight with number board, and (3) no stairs from the pilot to the running board) it would be nearly spot on for a class K-1-b engine, of which the New Haven had 240. Since Lionel is finally releasing their new Base-3/Cab-3 System sometime next year, I think that an upgrade to their LCS system would be a good idea. Let me know if you agree with me. I also have a few other suggestions for features and products.
-The LCS App could be given some major updates for control over the trains and a much better selection of track pieces, including more curves, smaller straights, operating tracks, and crossovers. Tubular track sections and American Flyer track could also be included as well.
-A new Accessory Voltage Controller would be a good addition to the LCS system. The new AVC could have direct connection of a 135W or 180W Brick and a PDI connection to the Base-3 (PDI Cable sold separately, of course).
-I'd also like to have a dedicated Operating Track Controller (OTC) to control operating and uncoupling tracks (especially Fastrack ones). Using FT Operating Tracks with an ASC2 requires modifications to the wiring (Sean of Sean's Train Depot on Youtube did a video a few years back that illustrates the necessary modifications, and they are pretty simple to do).
-Lionel should remake all their old operating accessories. Maybe they could add command-control to some of them, especially the bascule bridge and intermodal crane.
-Lionel should make larger O84 and O96 Remote/Command Switches. Atlas, Gargraves, Ross, and MTH (Scaletrax) all have larger switches for crossovers and yards.
-Wi-Fi Cameras in locomotive cabs (like the cabooses and vista dome passenger cars) would be awesome.
-Modern diesel locomotives need rotating bearing caps.
-Lionel should bring back road name/road number specific dialogue for all engines.
-I'm still hoping for a Fastrack Turntable (similar to the Atlas O one). The turntable could be sold as a manual version, a motorized version, or a TMCC-controlled version. If Lionel opts not to include a TMCC board with a FT Turntable, an AMC2 would work for command control.

I would love for lionel to reissue their dash 9 tooling and make NS8352. That locomotive is a hot mess and I love it!
If I remember correct their dash9 tooling is somewhere between a dash 8 and a dash 9, so NS8352 with its patched conrail to NS and primer nose should fit on it no problem!
Maybe brass hybrid streamlined steam? The C&O L-1s, ATSF Blue Goose, MILW F7s and C&NW E-4s.

i tend to gravitate to postwar and modern trains and just looking at my price guide i have found several trains to keep my eye out for
i really hope 2023 is the year i finally start laying track for the Topanga and Western and building the world i've wanted since the age of six
@trainmanmasonn, I really like your idea, making some of the postwar operating freight cars, log cars, coal cars, hopper coal operating cars, searchlight cars, in the scale look with lots of add on detailing, and TMCC/ Legacy controlled. Similar to the VisionLine sound cars, StationSounds diner cars, and even the milk car…. Great idea. Happy Railroading Everyone

I’m going to double down on my wish list of one type of locomotive that Lionel has sadly overlooked. The first generation six axle diesel by EMD — the SD7/SD9! Over six hundred built for over a dozen US railroads and were operated for decades! I’m talking about producing a scale version not the toylike ones they did on a GP7/9 frame. Yes I know MTH did one, but the expense to convert it to TMCC isn’t appealing. With so many road names to produce I don’t see how it could fail in the marketplace. I don’t understand how Lionel has missed adding this model to their roster.

Has anyone mentioned our need for reefers? Mechanical reefers go for well above their real value on the secondary market and they're not even "modern" anymore. I can't pull woodside reefers in 2023. Make some reefers. People will buy them. We have never had a reefer with an external refrigeration unit in O Scale. I see people with ES44AC's pulling 1950's era rolling stock too often.
...and all these amfleets could use some food service!
Speaking of Amtrak, as Lionel is producing a Downeaster, that Stationsounds Diner Dome may pick up some orders if it was painted in an Amtrak Phase 3 or 4 with or without sound. It's a pretty good representation of Amtrak's "Ocean View."
