Is it safe to put a converter in a closed box , like a clear Tupperware . Want to mount them on a control panel and protect them from 8 & 9 year old hands. Thanks Tstark

Could you provide some specs on the converter: input and output voltages, output current or wattage?
Does it get warm or hot when operating with the intended load connected?
Most buck converters run at a pretty high efficiency. Unless you're pulling a lot of power, it should be no problem to put it in a plastic box.
12 volt ac in . These are 12 volt dc . Some are on a multI colored roll Others are in groups of three.
The converter does not get hot
It's not a problem if under the intended load it doesn't get fairly warm. Normally, for what we use them for, they're loafing.
I installed three buck converters in a plastic "project box" by Radio Shack; one power wire pair IN and routed to the three converters. OUTBOUND DC power was adjustable with at three at the top of the project box, and then routed to the rails of three short trolley lines. The three bump-and-go trolleys run fine on DC. No issue with heat.
These handy gadgets are inexpensive and very handy for use on a train layout where convenient control of DC voltage is needed.

I've installed buck converters in Radio Shack project boxes also. Filled them with clear epoxy resin and buried the boxes on my Garden layout to drive the LED lit accessories. Three years so far and all well. Joe
The other option is simply drill a few holes in the box to allow some airflow.

... or use a box/container with a latching lid (lockable, if you want) and drill a few holes in the lid, but keep the lid fully open until the little ones arrive.
I believe we're over-thinking this. I don't think any massive ventilation is required here.

I agree, this one has been supplying an 8’ strip of 12vdc leds 24/7 for four years and is always cool(room temp) to the touch.
