Buy anything cool lately?

Picked this up on Sunday. I was going in to get either a ZW that has a list of services performed on it....from 1992, or the KW. When I pulled up I decided on the KW and was going to let the owner of the shop with the ZW know, fortunately, he sold the ZW so my mind was basically made up for me. The KW, apart from the throttle handles being labeled incorrectly, was redone by the owner of the model train exhibit who passed a short time ago. I LOVE it so far, finally got to really test it last night, runs my 2 biggest loops and all their accessories with ease.

Over the past couple of weeks I've purchased these Santa Fe Super Chief polished aluminum cars for a paint project.  Having seen them together, I'm about convinced these are too pretty to paint.  LOL

These were sold separately by the same seller and listed as pre-owned.  All I can say is they were very carefully handled--no scratches on the mirror-like roofs, etc.

The pity of it is that these LIONEL Santa Fe cars are, in terms of fluting, very closely represent Pullman-Standard streamliners used by The Texas Special trains which I planned to model.  The typical LIONEL aluminum cars are more like Budd stainless streamliners.

These are going back in the box until I decide what to do with them--they won't be painted.

Got this guy on Wednesday. The lighting controls on the bottom are different. It runs very smooth(as expected). Have done minimal experimentation running it with my LV RR Buddy just to see if they would seem compatible. As I delved further into my Buddy obssssed research, I noticed that they also made units with speed control in parallel and series which seems awesome. UNtil then- loving this guy! Especially goes well with my mid 90s Amtrak passenger cars in terms of the size(see last photo). I remember my mother and I going to get those when I was about 5 or so. Enjoy!

You know that you can pop the orange caps off the handle and swap them. 

I have a KW too, love it.

Mini-pick up today at the usual spots. Paid a really good price. Going back tomorrow because I was rushed for time today.

Got the whistle control cheap just to test out. The o22 switch also cheap, excited to see how it work. Always wanted a Main Street sign and liked the look of the Santa Fe gondola. Bag of o-31 track clips. And finally a prewar AF log car to go with my 484 caboose, 478 box car. 408 box car, and green sand car  (gondola)

After picking up the #42 Picatinny Arsenal switcher and grey 2460 12 wheel crane car at the OKC train show on the 3rd, I found a very nice 2321 Lackawanna FM at the local HS here in OKC last weekend.  Yep, still filling in some empty slots on my PW collection!

Neat little 1/4 oz. paint cup from Badger for my airbrush; also, bought the rubber cap.

Bought a neat, really large Lionel line side signal. Stands 11" tall, red diecast base, with Made by Lionel cast in it. Three signal lights on op. Has "Automatic Train Control" on the back It is in nice shape but needs rewired. Would appreciate any info -year, what does it do ?? A Xmas present to myself.

   It sounds like a semiphore signal with 3 lamps. A semophore is "a flag" with lights (sometimes).

Or... a gantry signal.  Like a bridge signal but frame cantelevered off only one upright. Often 2-3 lamps in an oval "target" similar to a city traffic light.

Or a tall block signal usually two lamps, but could be three.

The "automatic train control" makes me wonder about the possibility of block control / timed stop capabilities. (any lever or adjustement?)

 Things to look for are an internal resistor if it used with low volt bulbs(coil?), and or adjustment for a thermal strip (thermal timer), and the number of posts.

There is a lever on the back and 4 wires coming out.  The diecast etc looks prewar. I will open it up later today.

Well while I am here I might as well mention I made my largest ever train purchase.  I don’t have a photograph yet, but I bought a PS2 3-volt board Western Maryland Shay #6 from a Forum friend.  The prototype plied the rails on the Chaffee Branch bringing coal off the mountain just north of the a Blackwater grade, before it ended up at Cass.

I didn’t have the money for it, but decided it may be years before I had another opportunity!  I gave up the WM 44-Tonner just to show how much I wanted the Shay, and I will be posting some other engines on the For Sale Forum in the near future.

I’ll get a photograph or two up soon.  I’m typing while I am on the heating pad and electric therapy at PT.  Keeps my mind off the pain in the leg!  LOL

I'm back home, and here is a photograph of the MTH Premier Shay I mentioned above.

That's a sharp looking steamer Mark. I'd probably have made the same decision- 44 tonners are a dime a dozen.

Thank you, Bob!!  Up until today, the PT seemed to be just aggravating the issue.  Today, my fifth visit, seemed to help some.  Hopefully I am on the upswing.  I get the MRI on Saturday, so hopefully that will tell everyone the exact nature of the culprit!  Have a Merry Christmas!!!

Yeah it forces you to buy multiple items. At least it feels like your getting a better deal.  I hate the fact they go back to 5 mins in the last 5 my Buddy is steaming about that.  I was the only bidder and they did it to me lol.  Either way got some great cars NIB Atlas PFE cars for $34

Butch, Don't be too jealous.  I'm really torn on the other engine to sell.    I think I'm going to put three up there, close my eyes, and wait and see what goes first!
