Just picked up my new favorite engine! 2003 Lionel Lionmaster 4-6-6-4 Challenger. Got it at the Midwest Train show for a good deal. The smoke unit isn't working so I have yet to troubleshoot that.
Ah, that looks great, Paul! Both trains are sharp! SD is good for me! I can’t see well enough for HD to be worth it anyway!

Lionel models in that vintage were of such good quality and detail even in LionMaster semi scale! Very nice find ChicagoUP3976! thanks for showing it.
@Apples55- That's a beauty Paul. Gotta get it up to 30 SMPH blasting smoke out of the stack coming around the bend. I would suggest that you notify the mods about the issue with your original video. I'm sure you are not the first one who has run into this issue. It's probably got something to do with those crappy Apple phones......

Nice
Who fixed the board Pat ? 🤔
I bought the Menards Cripple Creek Engine House and mounted 6 prewired Warm White LED's inside it hanging from the rafters to look like old fashioned prototypical lighting from the steam/diesel era. I took off the center roof and spliced into the power leads going to the circuit board that flashes the roof red LED'S.
Gary, those LEDs will light up the interior of the engine house nicely. You gave me an idea for my Carolina Craftsman Kits - Thomas, West Virginia engine house. The roof is removable, so it would be easy to hang the LEDs off the 5 rafters in a similar way!
Thank you Mark, it was pretty tricky reaching in the bay openings to glue them in. I finally figured out putting the super glue on the structure and holding the shrink wrap tubing against the glue in place worked much better than the opposite way. Less glue on the fingers too!😂
Just got this 3D print of the ET&WNC's water tower at Bemberg, made by Merritt 3D Designs & Printing.
They did a great job.
I couldn't resist this even though I scratch built all my water towers some time ago. I guess one will have to be swapped out for this once I get chains, counterweight on it and paint/weather it!

Bob, I don’t see the photographs on my smartphone. Is this the Atlantis kit, which I believe was once a Revell kit?. I have one in one of my two chests of future projects.

I had to reload the pix Mark. Take a look again. I don't think it's a Revell. I don't see their markings anywhere on the box.

That’s the one I have. Thank you. Someone somewhere wrote it used to be marketed by Revell. I don’t know, but it is nice to see Atlantis is selling 1:48 kits. I have their gasoline tank truck kit also. I have about a dozen 1:24 cars I built ages ago.

About US
Build and Be Happy! Building models can be an artistic discovery and a journey through history. Develop your skills and build a collection with Atlantis Kits. Atlantis is looking to grow a new generation of modelers that can help expand and grow the hobby for generations to come.
Atlantis History:
Atlantis Model Company was founded in 2009 by the former owners of Megahobby.com, Peter Vetri and Rick DelFavero. We manufacture injection-molded plastic model kits and hobby related products. When we started Megahobby.com back in 2000, we had dreams of becoming more than just another retail hobby shop. We wanted to become an actual model production company like the Aurora Model Co and Revell-Monogram. As Megahobby grew, it gave us the opportunity to create Atlantis and finally come out with our own branded model kits.
We started with a few basic flying saucer kits (designed by EL Pangman), the E.V.E. Saucer with lights and the TR-3E Triangular UFO. We then teamed up with Lindberg to re-release the infamous Glow-Pilot UFO. This was the first science fiction model kit ever produced and the tooling dated to 1954.
We then brought back the Wildlife Series of models originally produced by Aurora. We thought this would be a great way to introduce model building to a new generation of builders. We created new steel tooling of the American Bison and a larger new sculpt of the Black Bear and Cubs kit. We also re-issued the White Stallion kit to round out the group.
Next on the list was the licensed Zorro figure on his horse Tornado. We had always enjoyed figure building and tracked down the original tooling. After some freshening up and securing the original box-art with Mort Kunstler, it hit the shelves.
Thru our new relationship with Revell-Monogram on the Zorro project, we had the chance to re-issue the Giant T-Rex kit from the Prehistoric Scenes Series. This series was a big hit for the Aurora Model Co. back in the 70's and the T-Rex had been re-issued several times in the past (under the Monogram label). Thru an arrangement with Dencomm Productions, we were able to use the Prehistoric Scenes name. What a giant kit!
Our next choice of kits to re-issue was Blackbeard the Bloodthirsty Pirate. It is known to be the most dynamically posed Aurora kit ever produced. A new steel tooling was reverse engineered and some fit issues addressed and Blackbeard was finally released in 2012.
Our desire to have car kits in our line led us to the tracking down of the old Merit Racing kits of LeMans winners in 1/24 scale. These kits of the Alfa-Romeo and Lago-Talbot hadn't been released in many years. This led to a new relationship with the Smer Model Company.
Our first official Toy release was the Battery Operated Titanic. 12 inches long, it motors thru bathtubs and swimming pools and made it just in time for the 2013 4th quarter.
In 2014--using our partnership with the Smer Model Company again, we released the Aurora Viking Ship. Another Retro Classic Plastic release with original Aurora box-art and decals.
Next was the George Adamski Flying Saucer kit-another rare re-issue of a UFO kit from Japan originally produced by Marmit which sold out almost immediately. During this time we were also developing many different all-resin projects based on sci-fi subjects and figures. The German Valkyrie Spacecraft designed by Alfred Wong was the best of these releases, and it was followed by the Atlantis Lunar Shuttle by JP Modelworks ( Jeff Pollizzotto ) and a Grim Reaper on Horseback by Hans Reuters and Jimmy Flintstone.
2015 was a very important year for us. We had many ideas and possible products in development and were finally able to bring some of them into production. The long anticipated Earth vs The Flying Saucers kit finally arrived to very good reviews. We followed that with a re-issue thru Revell-Monogram of the old Aurora Invaders UFO kit. Of course we gave it the typical Atlantis treatment of original box-art, instructions and even included a color print of the original Retail Sell-Sheet. Many thanks again to Andy Yanchus, our official Archivist (ex-Aurora and Marvel employee) and endless source of helpful advice, information and rare prints and image scans.
A new partnership with Lake Freighter Minis brought us a line of beautiful Paper Boat models. These are all made in the US and feature cargo ships, Ferries, and a Liberty ship that are all well-known on the Great Lakes.
We also had been working on a line of Wooden Boat kits. These are easy to assemble, completely made in America kits of famous ships from US history. One of our favorite ships, The Edmund Fitzgerald was the first subject to be released and it was closely followed by the good old RMS Titanic. We have now added the Monitor and Merrimack set, The PT-109, and the Yorktown Aircraft Carrier.
Towards the end of 2015, a new release with Smer brought us the Aurora Black Falcon Pirate Ship. A perfect companion for the Viking ship, they both feature beautiful original box-art by John Steel.
When 2016 began we had 3 new releases in our 5 inch Saucer Series to start the year off right. The Monument Valley UFO Encounter kit is a new design by Raul Quiles Jr. He developed our EVTFS kit based on the original designs by Ray Harryhausen. The Monument Valley kit is molded completely in Crystal Clear and also Glow-in-the-Dark Clear. This will allow for many interpretations by the builder to create their own version. We also did a 2nd Edition of the Earth vs the Flying Saucers kit molded in Silver (so no painting is needed) and gave it a new photo diorama backdrop.
The officially licensed Flash Gordon and Martian figure kit originally released by Revell back in 1965 sold out almost instantly. We followed that up with the Phantom and VooDoo Witch Doctor kit in 2017.
More collaboration with Revell led us to the re-issue of the big 1/72 scale Aurora DC-9 Airliner. We did this in our Classic Plastic Series and it features the original retro artwork showing the Hughes Airwest livery. Our decal sheet, made by Cartograf in Italy, also has markings for TWA. We also added the Gato/Balao Class Submarine to our motorized toy line.
2 More saucers joined the 5 inch series that year. We have the I Want to Believe saucer from the photo by Billy Meier, made famous from the poster featured in Mulder’s office in the X-Files. We also have a saucer based on the single issue comic book from 1950 called Vic Torry and his Flying Saucer. Another very retro release, both of these saucers feature our new 4 piece Saucer Display Stand.
Our company began a new phase!
LONG ISLAND, NY, August 29th 2018 – Atlantis Model Co., manufacturer of plastic models and toys has
purchased the tooling for many plastic model kits from the new owners of Revell, Revell Inc. USA-Blitz
Partners. These molds were from the tooling banks of Monogram, Revell, Aurora and Renwal, some
dating back to the early 1950's. They were stored in Revell’s Elk Grove facility in the great state of Illinois
and represent Automotive, Aircraft, Ships, Military, Figures, Space and many other interesting subjects.
Peter Vetri, President of Atlantis, states, “It's a lifelong dream to own this historic tooling and archive
material related to these molds; to be able to preserve the tooling is a real honor. We look forward to
reissuing many classics that have not been available in quite some time. All of the model kits will be
made here in the USA and all the tooling and the Archive have been moved from Elk Grove to our
facilities in Deer Park, NY.
The deal was worked out shortly after the Hobbico bankruptcy was settled out. It was a very smooth
transaction. It took about 2 months to complete from start to finish. Rick DelFavero, VP of operations,
states, “I think model enthusiasts around the world will be pleasantly surprised in the coming years to
see what the tooling bank and Historical Archive contains. We believe our releases will appeal not only to
people that saw the original issues of these kits, but also to a new generation that can help expand and
grow the hobby!”
We’re always updating our Facebook page-- be sure to stop by to see what is in the works.
We love feedback so please reach out to us with any ideas or projects you would love to see.

Gary, thank you very much! When in doubt, go to the source! It's great to have someone producing neat models that have been unavailable for years.
Buy anything cool lately? As a matter of fact I did! Two actually, both K-Line Hudsons, one in factory fresh condition, the other used in service.

Thank, Bob. A couple of problems with that... while I could probably figure out how fast 30 scale mile per hour is, since it’s just me doing the video, controlling the trains on the Cab2 while holding the camera (aka iPhone) is rather difficult (I just ordered a tripod thingie to hold the phone). Also, I don’t use smoke - whatever scent, it still smells like petroleum to me!!! As for the video problem, as I mentioned above, it is a new phone, so I really need to learn about video on the phone (an iPhone 13) to see if I can just record SD video as opposed to the HD version which caused the problems.
Alright so this is late, but I purchased this lot in November. Starting with the 242, which was in a box with heaps of rolling stock on top of it. It and the tender, which I believe is original to it, were $10, not bad for an engine that looks almost mint. Next we have the 635. It had a little damage at the screw hole, but the piece was there, and for $25, it was easily repaired. The 634 shell was $5 and in perfect shape, so I'll be getting a chassis for it soon. And now for the big ticket item, the 736, an engine I've been waiting for years to get ahold of. She was one of two the vender had, the other one had a 6 wheeled tender, but had been repainted and was about 100 more than this one. After negotiating him down, I managed to get ahold of it for $120. I also picked up a modern era search light car, but I never took a picture of it. I'll take a better picture of the Berkshire when I get time.

@Tim O'Malley posted:Brand spanking new!!!
I ordered this in the Fall of 2020, and forgot all about it until I received an e-mail from Lionel Store saying that my credit card was declined. After getting that all sorted out on Tuesday, I was shocked to find the train only two days later. I am loving it, though. These cars are pretty close to scale, and seem gigantic compared to what I usually get in O gauge. It's a Festivus Miracle!
The GP7 is oriented to be short hood forward, but I prefer the long hood forward look. It runs smoother this way over my O27 track, too.
I ordered one of these and then decided that the scale sized cars were going to be too big for my meager layout and we had small health issue at home. I did buy a couple of appropriate non scale rolling stock cars for the set before I decided to cancel. MTH has made many cars for the Pittsburgh region and managed to get a few to run with the locomotive. The most appropriate would be the North Pole Ice Cream refrigerator car as the prototype passed by the company and serviced it along the river just west of the P&LE terminal.
@ConrailFan those K-line Hudsons are awesome finds! The fact that you were able to get one in factory condition!!! Wow. I assume they both run well? And if one goes bad at least you have a back-up!(hopefully/I doubt that will happen- just how I view things with K-line's later products)
@Tim O'Malley that's one slick looking Legacy set! I really like the look of that GP7. The gondola definitely looks like a scale ps-5, the boxcar looks like it's from Lionscale or the new Standard O line. Either way very nice set. Stinks about the payment but I love getting an early delivery for an item- especially one like that!!
Here are just a few of the recent items I've picked up recently-specifically they came in the last week of 2021 and the first week of the New Year.
All Atlas Trainman ACF 50'6" Boxcars. Patched for ATSF(ex-RAilbox) #51062 on the left I got in December. Loved it some much that-for the first time besides w/ passenger cars- I got the second road number Santa Fe(ex-Railbox) #51139-in the middle, and finally Railbox Large Logo #36236 on the right.
Closer shot of the new ones- they are of a slightly different shade but from looking at pictures of the ATSF units and similar Railbox units they meet the prototype
And here's my string of Railbox cars. Would like to find the Atlas trainman small logo next!
This one is undoubtedly one of my favorites and I found it from a shop that only does business over the phone! Background: The first place my parents lived when I was born was in Bath and I then lived in Northampton(graduated HS from there), and live on Nor-Bath...
Atlas O 40' Rebuilt Steel boxcar, Limited edition from the 2004 run. Why Atlas made this Boxcar, for a RR that had less than 9 miles of track, is beyond me, but I love it because it's quite literally close to home!
Finally, Lionel Legacy SD40t-2 GECX road # 8678. The 8661 I had wasn't in the condition it was advertised so I'm returning it. I do like this one more- slight differences in the patches, black number boards instead of white, and roof details:
Will try to get a better photo later to post- can't seem to find the pics of this new one I took. Thanks to @Beth Marshall-The Public Delivery Track for getting this to me so quickly during the holidays!

These actually arrived between Christmas and New Years, but I just got a chance to get them on the layout - the latest offering from the good folks at NLOE (Nassau Lionel Operating Engineers). The antique dealer did not have any history relating to the scale. It stands almost six feet tall. The rest of the scale was flush with the floor. I have no idea what other pieces were involved to make it work.

That's a beutiful set Paul. They look nicely detailed and the ornge really pops.
Thanks for the background on your find, Bill.
Just a guess but the scale looks complete to me. You’ve got one to three round counterweights and a brass slider for fine adjustments.
The only thing missing looks to be luggage .
The long hook at the bottom does look close to the ground. I wonder whether the pillars were raised up for additional clearance. Or maybe they had interchangeable smaller hooks you could use for taller items? Someone here will know.
Again, neat find and so great of you to preserve this type of RR history.

@Apples55 Paul- that's a great looking trio of LIRR MOW cars! Agree with Dave's comment above- orange shows nicely not just in contrast to the gray but on it's own and the add-on details look like they're of good quality and well-applied. Passenger trains and commuter rail have always been a love of mine, LIRR locos & RS always catch my attention, but I'll save everyone the story of why I don't pursue it... By the way, do you use the sound car? If so, do you feel it adds to the operating experience?
Side Note: The NLOE puts out some really cool exclusives. The LIRR 50' double door boxcar they put out, while I don't own it, is still one of my favorite boxcars.

Thanks @StevefromPA and @Dave Ripp. I know I posted this somewhere, but the MOW cars go very nicely with a C-420 I picked up from Nassau Hobby...
Although most Lawn-guy-linders would strongly disagree, I was actually born on far western Long Island (sometimes referred to as Brooklyn!!!). I only rode the LIRR a couple of times in my life, but not far from where I grew up was the Long Island “cut” - if I remember correctly, it was part of what they called the Bay Ridge branch. If I was walking along Nostrand Ave. and heard a rumble or horn, I’d run to the overpass to see what was passing. So I guess that explains my interest in things LIRR. I’m pretty sure I have the box car you mention (blue &white???). I also have a box car in the same colors as the MOW’s and an orange caboose. One of these days, I gave to put all the cars together in one consist.
As for the freight sounds, yes, I do use them in general. I think they add some realism to running the trains. That being said, I forgot how annoying the kitchen car sounds can be - when the car is moving, you get the usual clickity-clack, but when it is standing still, you get “kitchen sounds” constantly. It isn’t a programmable car, so your only choices are on/off and min/max volume. I’ll have to try minimum volume.

Well this arrived by mail yesterday. I am a self admitted "tank car" fan. I thought my collection of Lionel tank cars was fairly complete but then realized that it stopped around 1990 and the production of tank cars did not stop ! So I discovered this little guy, a relatively low end 0-27 single dome that was offered in 1995 but was uncatalogued. This could mean it was part of a promotional set or even a single car promotion for the product vendor. Worse than discovering that I didn't have this single tank car, I found out through research that Lionel between 1989 and 1999 produced 23 different 1 dome tank cars, 5 of which were uncatalogued and now I have one!! Looks like a long path to complete the collection. Anyway here is the Lionel # 16149 " Zep Clean Across America" uncatalogued 1 dome tank car from 1995.
Note my research showed that Lionel, for some unknown reason, as I mentioned above, decided to produce a number of similar 1dome cars and a few 3 dome cars over the 10 year period from '89-'99. Interestingly they are all numbered...161...08 to 99. So if you like tank cars, investigate the Lionel listings 161XX and you will find a bunch!
Best wishes
