I will say the for pulling the MTH and Lionel are at the top. The Weaver is very good, and the Williams, while still good is least powerful. The plastic carbody is the difference. Chessie Man - this is the Weaver model. It is one of 75 I believe, but that doesn't seem to matter any more. I got it very inexpensively and I think the Weaver model has beautiful lines. They are very, very solid runners even if they lack command and sound. These are very worthy of an upgrade though.
I also need to correct my statement above - it was the 4880 not the 4881 that was painted in this color as well. Back to fix that!
Also - don't miss the obscure Weaver Pink one .....

And PRRfan - here is a thread Dominic posted in the 3RS forum with the new Bachmann road numbers. No engineer figure this year, but who knows what they have planned down the road. Honestly there is so much room in this carbody that you could glue your own engineer to the inside and have plenty of room to spare for upgrades down the road.

Based on your picture - more to the point, we all need a TYCO GG1 in McGinnis colors. The normally scale HO folk have gotten away with this a few times - i.e. the Penn Line Cast McGinness GG1 and the IHC (I'll paint anything on a locomotive to get a sale!) version did it too!
One of the Gs in this photo is the PRR version of TYCO's rather unique offering.

No York for me this year. Hopefully next year AFTER I get done helping with the TCA national. This is especially disappointing as my uncle lives only 45 minutes from York, and I still have not made a single one. He's been going for over 20 years ....

Good luck - I hope you get it. This is probably my favorite GG1 in my O side of the collection. While the FARR filters are definitely a major detraction from the nearly perfect Loewy design, this model exudes brute force.
However, I wish Lionel would reconsider the pantograph design of these.

It's advertised as 042, and while I've tried that, it really is better on 054 or better. With the articulation of the frame design though, it still looks a bit out on even 080 ....

Tip of the hat - you got me I lightened the photo in photoshop to bring out some of the detail.
I took two good, long hard looks at the Lionel JLC silver GG1 at York yesterday. It just did not move me to buy it, even at $499. I disliked it more than the tuscan red GG1s. I will concentrate on finding a DGLE (Brunswick Green) five-stripe JLC model to go with my DGLE single stripe unit.

Thanks for that info. I didn't quite have the $$$ to do it right now anyway, but at a little less than $200, I am very happy with the Weaver silver version. I'll plan on holding on to that one.
On a side note, one of my Williams is now scheduled for the paint shop to correct the number and do some weathering to. Hope to have something to show in a few weeks!

Cool. I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I have two Williams scale GG1s, Green and Tuscan Red five-stripes, plus the original Weaver DGLE five stripe that has the big motors without flywheels. I have never run the weaver model.

I just noticed that the Williams windsheild slants more than the others. I also noticed that the MTH cab roof is taller over the nose sections that Weaver, Lionel and Williams. Also, the MTH cab windows appear to be too small.
