OK, I'll ask a REALLY dumb question,,,,,,,,,,,,why does it matter? I've been participating on the OGR Forums for YEARS, and YEARS, and I've never noticed ANYTHING related to what time it is on the forums. If I want to know the current time, I either look at the clock on the wall, my wristwatch, or the far upper right corner of my iMAC computer screen.

I'm having trouble understanding the "problem".        Oh, and by the way,,,,,,,,,I NEVER "log out"! I haven't logged out for many, many years!

every year I go through this insane thing saying my time zone has changed no it has not computer says mountain standard time your notice shows same so please fix this I'm tired of this issue enough already.

Thank You for any help or do I need to let hoopla know about this yearly issue?

Are your computers set to update the time automatically? Both OS'es have a checkbox for that.

Pete

StPaul,

I just took a look at mine.   It appears that hoopla sets your time zone based on your zip code.  I just changed mine, for a moment, to a zip a long way away, and my time zone changed accordingly.

Make sure yours is set right.

Also, mine has never had the error you're showing on MAC or PC, using Safari and mostly Firefox on MAC, Firefox on personal PC, and the dreaded IE on work PC.

Double check the (gmt -xxx) settings on your computers as well.

I don't personally have the problem in general, but I did note a similar thing (I may have commented last year also - edit I did.) when I was actually using the Forum from a different time zone.

I may have been doing something odd with remote logging in to a computer on EDT via a computer on PDT though, I forget the exact details.  I do recall that when I was reading during my lunch breaks on those trips, I did get the same pop-up mentioned here.

For some reason Hoopla does deal with time zones, presumably for the time-stamping always showing local times.  What it actually looks at (local PC, something with the ISP, etc) is beyond my ability to guess what may be possible or happening.

Dave, excellent point.

I just vsp'd into a remote office system, and the Hoopla time zone changed to the time zone of the remote server I'm getting in thru.

Here's some insight into how the time zones work in Hoop.la, directly from Hoopla Tech Support

The prompt to update your time zone is built-in to Hoop.la to allow users to automatically change their time zone when they travel. The prompt is given any time the user's time zone, as detected in their web browser, is different than the current time zone set in their preferences.  When users are presented with the prompt, they should simply choose to update their time zone to the new time zone or else just ignore it by closing the prompt.

As some of your members noted, it's tied to your browser setting, so if you've logged in remotely so that it looks like you're coming from a distant location, it will "trick" Hoop.la into thinking you're actually in Switzerland (or wherever).

Your members can always check their current time zone at any time under Personal Settings, as well.

thanks Rich hoop.la makes it hard to see the x in the banner to dismiss it maybe you can plead with them to make it a bold black X !!

ironically I reloaded windows 10 and set the time-date etc to automatically set time zone still the banner but at least I can dismiss the banner.

this happens after first of year and close to daylight savings time change seeing most are 3 months and days not on daylight savings time it would save we folks not on it if they just kept it 24-7-365 on daylight saving time.
