I’m new to O gauge and today when I ran my trains for the first time I experienced a couple issues.

My layout is set up with inner and outer loops each powered separately by a Lionel 180 watt Powerhouse.  The inner loop Fixed 1 ran perfectly.  When I decided to move the engine to the outside loop Fixed 2 there was no power.  I tried to troubleshoot and thought maybe the connectors from the Lionel Powerhouse might be the issue so I swapped the two.   I didn’t get power to either loop so I figured I solved the problem.

My next thought was to use my MTH z-1000 and see if things work.  To my surprise I again had no power with Fixed 2.

So I have one Lionel Powerhouse and the MTH z-1000 that work on Fixed 1.  I have one Lionel Powerhouse that doesn’t work on either Fixed Input and nothing seems to work on Fixed 2.

This seems like two issues and I would love to get any suggestions.  Is it possible I shorted something out?

try the power supply that works on fixed 2 then your tiu should work. if it still does not work you need to check  continuity . if it does not work check the Tiu  in and output with a VOM volt ohm meter and  see if you read a short ! if you read a short on fixed 2 in or out you most likely have a shorted TVS diode! P:s when your using fixed 2 you have to use aux power supply  ac input or wire from transformer to variable 1  must be powered for tiu fixed 2 to work ! Alan

Actually, the first thing to check is the fuse for the FIXED #2 channel.  A shorted TVS would be tripping the breaker on the PH180.  You don't need any power to other channels for power to come through FIXED #2, however DCS won't work unless the TIU internal electronics are powered from AUX power or FIXED #1.  Variable channels won't work at all without powering the TIU internal electronics as well.

Update is blown fuse in TIU.  Powerhouse is the newer model with the pin that wasn’t pushed in using adapter plug.  I found another thread with another person having the same issue.  My brother-in-law helped check the Powerhouse and the relay wasn’t kicking on because of the pin.  I guess whoever made my adapter plug needs to add something to that third hole.  I appreciate all of the great knowledge and information on this site.  Thank you!

For the new PowerHouse 180, you need to either put a pin in that 3rd position or jam the switch on the PH180 that needs to be pressed to provide power.

Yes, and I didn’t realize my two PH180 units were different.  Well I guess I did when I noticed three wires and not two but I still didn’t know about the issue until searching this site for problems.  My brother-in-law was happy that I had found some answers here.  It makes repairs much easier!  😃
