No pictures today, but am still making good progress on the layout.  Have begun adding trees to two areas and hope to pour water next week.  My son Jim was over last night and we got the 6 switches roughed in on my fascia that turn the layout power on and off with green indicator lights to show when it's on.  As soon as they are completed, I can finish all my fascia.  Ordered more material for a tree canopy behind the stone arch bridge area.  Brain storming how best to tackle my Spencer Packing Co. scratch build.  Same with my Wonder Bread bakery and Gold Medal flour mill.  Friends operating session this afternoon, so won't be much progress today.

Saw a family of bears eyeing the new woods so I had better get it done.  They looked a little annoyed as they are late on their hibernation plans because of it.  A family is also getting impatient to be able to fish in the river and are pressuring me.

Yes, those bears must be mighty feisty by now if they haven't been able to hibernate yet!!  You had better get moving on this or they will be attacking you and Jim!!    Those fishermen can wait a few days, much too cold unless they want to risk ice fishing on a free flowing river!!

Today I received a care package form Lionel for my UP 1983 SD70ACe. 2 weeks ago the sound quit. It just made a popping noise most of the time, but now and then you could here the normal rail sounds through the static. I went to the Lionel Store to see about replacement RS boards. The only one still available was the RS power board (universal). I ordered one along with the replacement wheel sets for this engine (replaces the high flange wheels for better travel over switches). So tonight I installed all the parts. Success...short lived on the RS fix. For about 30-45 min the sound was great. Then the static started to come back. I'm not sure what's happening, so I'll reach out on forum for help. The good news is this loco runs over switches with ease now. It use to jump / hop over my FasTrack layout (office shelf)....so not all was lost today.

This is my first attempt...I attached a video of UP 1983 in a 3-engine lash up with UP 8360 and UP 8415.

Your first attempt is great, Bulldog!!  Looks great, and so do your shelves!!

That's his half brother (Tyson side) that lives on the east side of the A&M tracks in Springdale, Arkansas.  The Tyson side of the family is big in Lionel 3434 operating poultry dispatch cars.

Not much accomplished today. Had to run around. But  I had a chance to do something brainstorming. I still have a bit of work yet to do on the grain elevator. On the track side other then the roof over it it is pretty bare. So I can up with an idea I am going to try. Going to use a section of track to make a unloading pit. Maybe make the outside of it look like concrete and cut the ties on the gar graves track leaving just the outer rails with part of the ties. I'll be working on it tomorrow. Not sure if I want to make the pit the full length of the discharge chutes of the car or just long enough for say two. Have to mull this over a bit. Pic ...........Paul

I've been to Springdale and railfanned the A&M back in the '90s.  Now I understand completely!!

That FUNNY STUFF! Great idea!!!

Spent a bit of time doing some much needed cleanup on and around the layout.  Checked out my new Miller Highlife and Southern Comfort cars I got from Trainsandtoysoldiers.com .. Also put pack B of reindeer cars, and Santa observation on the track and checked them out. Got them from Trainworld.com. Pretty cool! Probably the best rolling cars on the layout!   Plotted out another pass through siding and ordered more track from Mario's, and pack A of reindeer cars!  Got to get ready for Christmas!!! LOL 

Also viewing all the great pictures and videos posted on here lately!  Amazing scenes and layouts galore!!

So I got to thinking about moving all the track an inch or two to equal out the distance from the walls.  Sounds easy lol Took me a while.  So since I had moved all the trains I decided to clean up the cuts on the drywall where we had to get into the wall to fix the wiring.  Hey while I'm at it..  I'll cut a piece to fit in that hole! So after I cleaned the room up .. I messed it up!!  But I did get that patch in the wall!   Tomorrow I will fill and sand the joints.   Good place for a metal sign!! LOL

Started out with putting in more roadbed under the third mainline along with 3R plastics ties under the Lionel and K Line tracks.  From there I went into laying out area for the mountain and tunnels on North end of layout, supporting parallel tracks with side supports from one track plywood track base to the other for stability and strength.  They will be out of sight within the mountain or in deep cuts and are both elevated approx. 8 inches above flat table level.   Did make some progress, now to put in more time!

A New Train Table is Born!

  RC Jr has been working on a plan to build a train table for my 2 grandkids for a while, now that the B*tch is gone (been a year now)& took her expensive (too intimidating to use furniture) with her from the 25k sq ft house in the country club(not his cup of tea either). Tho the legal battles rage on, Life goes on with refurnished IKEA mancave furniture (quite comfortable I must say), thus the train table constructed in the formal dining room. Kids are age 4 & 3, thus table is only 24" high.  Jr got the layout plan from the MTH website & had all new trackage rounded up still in package (ScaleTrax). Tuesday Mimi & I head to Toledo on a mission : Train Table Build.

  Actual construction didn't begin til wednesday 2pm as I spent the morning rounding up construction material while Jr went to other appointments. By Thursday Eve train power was being applied. Wired up so he can isolate the passing siding & the 3 spurs along with a Accessory buss powering switches.

I used the table plan from a Lionel video with some modifications;
1. Adj height to 24" Legs
2. 2x4 framing we predrilled for wire harnessing
3. Corner wrapped legs instead og 45 deg bracing & used torque bit deck screws enabling easy leg removal.
4. Topped with 15/32 plywood topped with Hemosote.
5. All visible material was dbl primered & painted.
6. Top Coat on hemosote included a heavy coverage of modeling grass, which was then oversprayed with glue.
Friday Morning I came back home & # 3 son's twins were born the next morning (all is good there too).

Wish I could be there when kids come home to find it, but pics will follow. Gotta hang with newborns now!

Here are some updated photos. I painted some last night on this build. I still need to paint the lower front facade. I'm going to do a gloss black which I think these were supposed to represent those black stone or tile they used to put on buildings.

This morning I was going to head to Medina Ohio for a train show but when I got up it was snowing so I decided to stay home. I basically got the grain elevator all painted.  Left to do is the discharge pit for the hoppers, cut down one side of the base and mount a couple of things to the building. I also got the second coat of paint on the feed mill. And while I am up here I am going to search for pictures of pits under the hopper cars. Yesterday I got my set of Weaver trucks and couplers from Ebay. Maybe I'll install them but this afternoon it is still small projects.. Pics.....Paul

AL nice building!  Will look great on your layout!  What do you have planned for the inside?  I take it that big hole in the front will be  either a window or a loading door?  

Paul your project keeps getting better and better!  Can't wait to see the finished product!  When can you start building me one of each? : )
