World's Largest Railcar just built at New Castle, PA: WECX #801

Attached are some images of the newly manufactured Schnabel car, WECX 801. It was built by Kasgro in New Castle, PA and is the "World's Largest Rail Car".

It is owned for Westinghouse and will be primarily used to transport Nuclear Reactor Containment Vessels.

The car separates in the center and the load becomes part of the entire car, increasing its already long length.

It weighs 799,200 lbs empty and has a load limit of 2,035,800 lbs.

The following link is from a local TV station that further describes the car.

The very first Schnabel car built in the US (WECX 200) was also build for Westinghouse over 40 years ago. It too was built in the Shenango Valley, but at Greenville Steel Car in Greenville, PA.

Locomotive CSXT 3029 is a brand new General Electric ES44AH [ Evolution Series - 4400 HP - AC Traction Motors - High Adheasion Trucks ]. CSX brought it down from GE's Assembly Plant at Erie, PA especially to be displayed with the WECX 801. The locomotive's prime mover was manufactured at GE's Grove City, PA plant.

The World's Largest Rail Car and the most environmentally fuel efficient mainline diesel locomotive in the world are both produced right here in Western Pennsylvania. That's something that you don't have to be a railroader to be proud of.

Very cool Dan and you are right about being proud, I feel good that we can still build things like this in Pennsylvania and I'm from Philadelphia.

We use to be able to build great things like that is South  Eastern PA, but unfortunately our leadership, for the past fifty years has been too busy walking around shooting themselves in the foot, then blaming the other guy.

In any case, I'm happy to see that the North East can still "Get her Done".

Kasgro in New Castle, PA is a cool place to see. HUGE multi wheeled cars on sidings everywhere. Get off the Pa turnpike at Beaver Valley head on 18 towards New Castle

You cross over the Kasgro Yard and you can see from the bridge several RED drop center flats and heavy move cars.

FYI: A short drive to The Underground Railroad and Mercer Junction from New Castle.
