Cool can Frank.  I might even have one to match. If I remember I'll try to find it later. 70s? early 80s?

This morning I found this Squirrel Peanuts Woodside Reefer #U3123 at the Greenberg Show in Wilmington Ma.  I've never heard of Squirrel Peanuts before. I liked the colors & graphics.  Definitely different for me.  One good thing is that peanuts go well with beer.

That's great, Matt!  I never heard of it either, but I like it!  Squirrel Peanuts!  Our squirrels like peanuts a lot!

Nice score. I saw them but passed as I have enough B&O engines right now especially with buying the power B-unit with legacy, I just couldn't pass up, and really didn't have the extra cash for them with getting ready to close on another house soon.

I have wanted this car LOTS 2003 Patriotic Unibody Tank Car ever since I first seen one . Never purchased one because the asking

price for the ones I've seen was well over what I was willing to pay.

Recently a forum member put it up with a very fair price brand new and I just happen to see it and e mail him first.

Usually not the way it works for me.lol

Very happy with this one. Thanks Jerry

That is one beautiful tank car, Larry Sr.  I can only be so lucky on securing a circle of 031/032/032  Ross or Gargraves sectional track for an around the Christmas tree loop.

For myself, I was startled to answer my door this Sunday a.m. and find a USPS carrier delivering my parts order from LIONEL (their 50% off sale); and, pleasantly surprised that my order was shipped "complete"--no omitted/out of stock items-- and props to LIONEL parts for a super packaging job.

So, you're the forum member who beat me with your email to buy this tank car. Unfortunately for me, but most certainly fortunate for you, my seeing and emailing Jerry about it within two hours of him posting it wasn't fast enough but you certainly were, so congrats and good luck, Larry, with that gorgeous tank car. And yes, $88 for it was a definite "Steal it" price considering numerous other asking prices I've come across for it. So while your search has ended, Larry, mine continues on. Again, good luck with it.

Picked up a Lionel set at estate sale over the weekend looks to be a 1954 1503WS set. Dirty but not abused. Lubed all the points and gave her a test run and she ran and whistled like 1954.

For me, the best part is doing the clean up and oiling the works. The smoke unit is clogged and found a screw stuck by one of the drivers but overall its in good shape.

I'll post a "after" video soon.

Thanks for looking, Frank

Frank, I went back checking out some of the post in this thread. Seen your estate find and realized I have a similar set I bought off ebay back in June. I went down stairs and took some pix. Mine is from 1953 w/2055 steam. Like yours, I cleaned, oiled and greased it, runs like new.

Paul, That's a great Sunbeam sign!

You were just telling us yesterday about buying up MTH remotes.  Nice job!

I'm torn.  My arthritis in my hands is the most painful in my thumbs.  I find the thumbwheel painful to use, so I bought a Wifi shortly after it came out.  It works good, and I don't have thumb pain using it, as long as I do everything on the smart phone with my index finger.  However, being old school I still like pushing real buttons.

I probably should follow your lead and buy another remote.

Larry, you sure3 got yourself a great looking tank car there! Congrats on getting the one you have been waiting for!

LARRY SR, nice car. Good things comes to those who wait patiently. I got that when it forst came out.

Well today I was suppose to start wiring cars but somehow I said to the wife do you want to go for a ride. The ride was to the Firelands show in Mansfield Ohio and there is a Cheddars restaurant near there she said yes. Most of the time I go to this show I find nothing but this time I got some nice vehicles for 5 dollars and tens dollars. Pics.....Paul

My Inersoll-Rand demonstrator unit arrived last week. Nice piece. Finally got a day off from the EOC (fires) and got to spend some time at the club. MTH did a great job, After the warranty is up, it's going to be outfitted with Kadees and some minor pilot work.

Heard the prototype is in the Henry Ford Museum and still runs (can someone verify?).

New book: “Michigan’s Historic Railroad Stations”

By: Michael H. Hodges

1 Book cover Michigan RR Stations

This book is written by a Michigander and published by a Michigan publishing & printing company. It is a hardcover book with 186 pages, full color.  I first saw this book at my local library and checked it out several times. My librarian suggested that I purchase a copy because I have ran out of renewals, so I did.

My favorite station is Grass Lake, built in 1887 by the Michigan Central Railroad, because we have family ties to this station.

Gary

Hey Gary,

I found this magazine at the club it's from 1993. It has articles about train wrecks, stations and the tunnel they built in Detroit plus more.

But I bought this AutoTrain from a Trainz auction and didn’t notice until it was too late that it has a manufacture defect. Missing a “FE” in red letters on one side.  Kinda cool but also annoying.

Jack, I'm with you.  To me it is kind of annoying, but it may be a rare piece.  Not saying it is worth keeping thinking it's value may go up; just that it is cool.  I would still run it.  If you were into weathering, you could do something to make it less noticeable, but though I like to model realistic scenes, I have never brought myself to weather wonderful paint jobs.

Postwar at its best! Nice layout really like all the trees. Did you make them?

Thanks franktrain, this layout is only 4x8', my previous layout was 10x20'.

The trees are actually from golden rod plants, after it dies, the top fluffs out then I go and cut several tops off, spray paint them green, then stick them on the layout.

I had a chance to get a good deal on this piece, and I couldn't pass it up.  I already have the Lionel Vision Line Big Boy, this is the MTH version from the 2017 Catalog.  Now I have the before and after picture of the 4014, the VL is before, the MTH is the oil burner after the conversion.  Too bad I can double-head them, but I think that's a non-starter with one being Legacy and the other DCS.

Since I don't have any benchwork yet, no place big enough to run this, but it looks and sounds great on the bench.
