If you decide to sell this car I am interested. I’m retired from International and always try and add anything with our logo.
TW Nathan’s cars just showed up. Here they are flanking the earlier NLOE version by Lionel. Many memories stirred up here. I lived the first 70 years of my life in Marine Park Brooklyn. That was about 20 minutes from Nathan’s. On a day like this in February, 65 degrees; my late wife and I would jump in the car and head to Nathan’s for a couple of dogs and then a stroll on the boardwalk. We sure missed that when we moved to NJ IN 2014. People say Jersey shore this and Jersey shore that. That’s only because they have no idea what they missed! Sorry for digressing.
Really nice cars, usually I don’t pay attention to the cars. I am going to try and get a couple.
Nice layout too…
Rich
My wife and I were fans of the big Nathans in Yonkers, I think it was number 2 in size...then one day it was bulldozed down and a much smaller Nathans appeared in a strip mall. Time marches on, I guess.

I picked up the 100th Anniversary version from NLOE a couple of years ago - also a great car. One of my favorite Nathan’s “urban legends” was that the fries from the Coney Island location always tasted the best (I do believe that to be true!!!) due to the fact that they hadn’t changed the oil in the fryers in over 75 years. Unfortunately, superstorm Sandy put an end to that!!!
My MTH premier Erie Lackawanna GP-9 came in this week from MrMuffins Trains & my MTH Railking AKSteel switcher from Train World. Need to get some pics!! Also received a call from Stockyard Express this week that my MTH Railking Republic Steel switcher is on its way. Busy week!!
Sometimes it pays to work your way through all the items available in a particular category on a dealer’s website. While searching for Lionel 6565 boxcars (found one, see below) I came across a car I had purchased when it came out but sold a few years later. The price was something I could live with so I added it to my shopping cart.
Trucks on this car are die cast metal, but the springs are just for looks. It’s mind boggling that this car is 40 years old now.
As noted above, I did find an interesting 6565 boxcar that I also purchased.
Die cast sprung trucks.
Die cast frame too.
Although I have more rolling stock than I will ever use, I think there will be more 6565 cars in my future.

Tom, growing up in the Bronx that was my Nathan's. I don't know if it was #2 in size but it was #2 chronologically. I know that from the placemats they used when I would hit the Westbury branch for lunch while working on Lawn Guy Lind. Do you remember the kiddie rides they had outside the one in Yonkers? Almost a mini Coney Island amusement park.
I just received my new Lionel Southern Pacific SW8 #1102 from the 2021 Big Book Catalog yesterday. It's cool to me because it's my first switcher. Unfortunately for me, I was too busy to even open the box yesterday, so finally got my chance this morning. I took it out of the box, did a visual inspection, looks fantastic! Before putting on the track I lubricated all the usual lubrication points, and then put it on the the track. Powered it up, programmed it to Locomotive #2 on my Legacy Cab2, cycled the track power, and fired it up. Sounds great! I love the sound of a rattling old supercharged diesel at low RPM's! Add to that the whine of the supercharger and generator, music to my ears.
Since it's also FEF, I'm posting some photos over there too.
Here's some photos:
Wow! Guys what great new engines...thanks for posting. Things as big as that L-5 pennsyfan and that R2a biscuitag97 would take up most of my main line by themselves, but they sure are beautiful. pennsyfan and Apples 55 I really loved the Nathan's refers...really love Nathan's hot dogs as well. Luckily for me, Nathan's is one of the brands they sell even way out here in Texas so we can still get that great taste. Bradj - that Coca Cola set was the one I bought for my oldest son in about 1976 I think...it started this whole train thing for me! GregM - I agree the 6565 cars are really neat, on one of the other threads we had a pretty good discussion over several days posts about them and finding them. One of the folks did compile a list with product numbers and dates, I will try to post it - don't know if that will work.
I am going to follow a prior post about a "new" 3 dome tanker. This one is 3 dome for "Plasticville Petroleum Products" from Williams by Bachman "Classic Freight Series" and was their 2009 Platinum Club car. It has sprung die cast trucks, metal ladders and trim, and a very colorful (if fictional) livery. I know 2009 was 13 years ago but this guy was still in his external shipping box when I bought it and I doubt it has ever been on rails.
Hey I attached the list that was worked up on the 6565 cars and its below. You have to open the attachment with "Word" but its there if you want to look at it. OBTW, this list was just compiled by some interested foreum folks so if you happen to know of one we missed please add it. Thanks.
Best Wishes,
Don
Thanks Don!

Nothing was better on a cold winter day than an order (or two or three) of hot fries in the cone cup from the Coney Island location.
Just picked this cute little teapot up!
I’m officially done with motive power purchases for a while… gotta let the train budget recover…
Here's a bunch of rolling stock that I've been wanting to post- starting with Atlas and Atlas Trainman:
Hoppers:
Atlas Big O/Master- Conrail ACF 3 bays and Chicago Freight Car Leasing 5161 Trinity
ATSF PS4750 and PS2CD 4427
Boxcars:
Trainman 50' 6" Boxcars: UP XAF 11 w/ MP reporting mark & BNSF Swoosh logo. Both w/ safety stripes
Love these 40' hy-cubes. I know they were't around too long but from what I've read despite their road names being primarily western, they were often found in captive service and were common on Penn Central trains
Weaver GM&O GP38-2 dummy & Trainman ICG & DRGW 40' Hy-cubes
Trainman 40' Hy-cubes: ATSF (1975 Repaint) and Southern Pacific(PDT special run- thanks Beth!)
ATSF 1975 repaint vs 1967 version. 1975 repaint includes plate F & COTS
String of 40' hy-cubes, spotlight on the DRGW, Northern Pacific & UP
Some more to come on the Lionel front
Wanted to finish up posting these before the ATMA meet. Lionel Freight cars and some Atlas:
Lionel Illinois Central 60' Boxcar and ACF 3 bay Wabash hopper
Some 60' boxcars: Atlas DRGW 60' Berwick Hy-cube, Lionel 60' double doors- ATSF & Norfolk Southern**
**- the Lionel NS really bothers me with its roof walk. One, NS came into being long after running boards were no longer allowed. Also, with a built date of 1996- just doesn't make sense. That said, I've had a hard time finding decently priced Norfolk Southern rolling stock and I can always remove the running boards
Lionel Conrail 60' and Atlas O PS-1 50' Conrail boxcars...I've read that the white door on the Conrail boxcar means "clean lading"- if anyone can confirm I'd appreciate it!
Finally- some gondolas.
Lionel CSX Mill Gon & MTH 52' BC Rail gondola
Wanted to post to demonstrate their size vs. some other large modern cars as well for any prospective buyers
Conrail Mill Gon(PC paint) Between a 60' Berwick Hy-cube and 60' boxcar. Was a bit disappointed with the paint job on this one vs what I was expecting based on the catalog pics
CSXT Mill gon between 60' boxcar and trinity hopper

Why would you limit it to a cold winter day???
Hi Paul,
Nothing wrong with fries in warm weather but I would rather have a cone of hot Nathan's fries in my hand than a hot cup of coffee!
But enough about fries, this thread is about cool train related items!
I got this Grand Trunk & Western flat car, but it was a little to new looking. I weathered it, painted the deck and added diecast sprung trucks.
Ten dollar box of fun. Estate sale find Lionel #60 trolley missing pole and a couple Scout cars with interesting coupler setup that I have never seen. Tried the trolley and it growled, I think with a good cleanup and lube it will be banging away again.
Scout coupler and a upgrade coupler on same truck.
The 60 trolley is running, still need to get the trolley pole
I think that I have a 6014 car like that. I’m pretty sure that i kept it.
I did. This seems so appropriate as I used to buy Schmidt’s returnable long necks back when (probably underage) and……we now live in the former (national) sales manager’s home for Schmidt’s Beer from back when. Even better, I believe that my dad knew and met him back in the ‘80s on our “new” and now current street. Well somewhat down and across the creek. I love train and beer history!
i got a really cool box this week from Trainz too!
This might be better placed in the cool MPC thread. But this is all new to me.

Great looking Reefer
Looks good WRW, like it’s ready for a shipment from 2nd and Girard.

I've seen that coupler a few times, I believe it was a Lionel service center conversion kit.
These beauties arrived the other day - another home run from the great folks at METCA (and Thanks, Stu, @NOT LionelLLC for your help with my problematic address - no issues this time!!!).
Of course, when they send the cars, they just have to include a bunch of flyers with their other current offerings… and they are doing a pair of Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal flatcars with Boar’s Head Pup Trailers. Being a Brooklyn boy, I just had to order a set of them as well.
Driving to York through Wheeling, WV, l pass the old Mail Pouch Tobacco building. Its signs remonistrating you to "Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco" were found on fences, trees, and the doors and walls of rural country stores in my past, so when Patrick's Trains offered these MTH reefers, even though not one of the four states of Atlas reefers l collect, this is a souvenir of York and is here today. In cigar store wooden Indian tradition, it has a head-dressed native American on its sides.
Just received the Lionel freight set I got on the bay NIB. Its the Lionel Feather River Regional 3 pack freight set 6-31796 with a WP Feather Logo Boxcar, UP bulkhead Flatcar with pipe load, and WP PS-5 Gondola with automotive chassis load. My favorite is the boxcar with the big Feather and Western Pacific in it, "Rides Like a Feather". I should have taken a photo of the boxcar with the door open so the compartments could be seen. Next time.
I really need to flip the switch on the Xmas lights! LoL
And here it is in action with in a WP consist with the enemies Daylight train on the inner loop.
That’s a great looking train!
Great buys everyone! I bet they all look wonderful on your layouts!
