I was in my LHS the other evening when a gentleman picked up a new Legacy set. It had v1.4 modules. Anyone else running with v1.4? From what we were told last fall for the LUG meeting there was support for the ZW-L incorporated into it.

I've done a search on Lionel's site from time to time and not found a way to buy it without buying a 990. Someday I guess...
I have the V1.4 Legacy system. The only change is that it can be set for sleep
mode after 15, 30, 60 minutes. The V1.3 is set for 1,2,4 hours for sleep mode.
The V1.3 manual listed all the Lionel people that worked on Legacy, the V1.4 manual
does not have that list.
When using the V1.4 system, it is difficult to get it to turn on or off. The CTC button
must be pressed many times before it responds.
The battery charger still requires a long charging time and the remote still becomes
quite warm.
The V1.3 module will not work in the V1.4 remote. There were changes made inside
the remote but there are not markings to tell if it is .3 or .4 remote.
I haven't noticed any delay in the power shutting off with 1.4, seems the same as 1.3
The Charging heat/flashing lights is a hardware problem and not a software fix.
What do you mean by changes? The modules should the same, so are you saying something prevents you from inserting it? Or does it not read the module?
I am unaware of any hardware changes to the Cab2 running 1.4 that would prevent 1.3 modules to be inserted physically.
Also I know we ran a 1.4 Cab2 on a 1.3 base without issue.
I guess we need more info whether this is a physical issue for the module or a compatibility issue between 1.4 base and 1.3 Cab2.
The 1.3 module fits in the 1.4 cab2 and the red led blinks like it is
loading but when finished the display is blank. The cab2 will
not turn on. Loading in the 1.4 module loads back in to return
the 1.4 cab2 to normal operation.
The 1.4 cab2 will work with a 1.3 base. The display shows remote v1.4
and base V1.3.
Interesting. Will have to see if anyone else with a native 1.4 base reports the same
By the way was there a particular reason you were trying to downgrade from 1.4 > 1.3?
OK I just got word from Lionel, if the Legacy System shipped with 1.4 DO NOT downgrade it. It must have at least version 1.4 on it, do not use 1.3

Hmmm...anybody try Windows 8 yet? You can't go back with that either, unless you completely wipe and reload 7 fresh.
So it goes.

You can pick out the pioneers, they're the ones with the burning wagons! I'll stick with Windows 7 for now.

this is going to be a problem.
Why doesn't lionel just let everyone upgrade to 1.4?
What if you have 1.4 at home and the club has 1.3?
The cab2 with V1.4 has a problem turning on or off so I loaded V1.3 into the
Cab 2 to see if the on/off problem was in the V1.4 software. The V1.4 Cab2 does not
work with V1.3 software so I still have a problem turning the Cab2 on/off.
A Cab2 with 1.4 will work with a 1.3 base. The newer Cab2s will not work using the 1.3 Cab software. I don't know why but that's what we were told. I have used a 1.4 Cab2 with a 1.3 base.
There must be a change in the latest Cab2s for the v1.3 not to function in them.
Marty so I should not have problems up grading my 1.3 cab2 and base to 1.4
You should be fine!
OK the gentleman that picked up his CAB2 system reported the same issue. Turning off the remote seemed to be a task. He re-loaded the Cab software a couple times and then it was finally able to be shut off.
I'm not sure if it was a software issue or hardware. It seems now though that the CTC button is turning off the remote. Also he did report that the V1.4 module did not seat as easily as the modules in his old remote but they did go in.
Maybe Jon can chime in as to why the newer Cab2s are having this issue. I would have like to see what was going on first hand but was unable to.

Tried reloading the V1.4 software into the Cab 2, still have the problem
with turn off. Pressing the CTC button, there is no beep indicating the
button was pressed. Repeat pressing of the CTC will get the beep. Holding
the CTC button down will some time get a shut down.
I sent an eMail to Lionel about the problems turning off the V1.4
Cab2.
Their answer was to loosen the 2 screws on the back of the Cab2 under
the CTC button.
I tried their fix and it appears to work.
Hmmm...does that mean that a washer somewhere is required?
