Peace keeper rail garrison

Hello, Intermodalman.  I can't help you with pics of US train but if you go to englishrussia.com and type "Russian Death Train" in the little search box at the top right  of the sight, you can see a very interesting picture article of the Russian missle train. 

Originally those gp40's we're painted a dark blue with some red/white chevron's on the nose.

Make a freedom of information act request to the United States Airforce public relations office. I am certain they will provide you with exactly what you want.

Most if it is available- it's finding it that the tough part - which military department has what, etc.

I found this report, which on page 17 has a hint of the consist - see attached.

Interesting article here with some nice clues - there is the "concept" train reference to a magazine and date and a few statements that the full train was never built or assembled.

Just for interest, I found this file in a weird format and recoded it - can you imagine this coming out of a railcar - 3 stages of solid rocket and one stage of liquid fuel

Didn't even think of that, that should work out... but I'm afraid to see what the Air Force would want to charge me for finding the records. I talked to some folks at the USAF space and missile museum but didn't get anywhere. I might try the national USAF museum in Dayton as well considering they have the only officially preserved car.

Thanks for the PDF, that should be useful, or at the very least good reading material for my lunch break at work. That is if my my nosy co-workers don't look over my shoulder and start thinking I'm a Russian spy.

from what I read the Air Force was very concerned with the health of the rail post launch and spent a massive amount of money testing if a length of track could survive the launch as if 90 feet of track mattered considering a launch would have sparked nuclear war.

As a side note I saw one of these missiles launch in person a few days ago in the form of Orbital ATK’s Minotaur IV. A rocket that is essentially a LGM-118 Peacekeeper with a few additions and modifications. The thing launched at 2AM, without a doubt a spectacular show.

I took this picture at the Feather River Rail Society museum (Portola, CA) during last year's UPHS convention.  It is a former 1943 Pullman Troop Kitchen Car modified for the Strategic Air Command to be a guard's quarters.  The ACI label places it in that late 60's / early 70's era, I don't know if it was associated with the rail garrison project or not...

If I remember correctly that car escorted USAF B-52 simulators that were built into modified baggage cars.

Intermodalman, I think you are correct.  Upon further searching I found remarks that it did accompany B-52 and KC-135 simulators.  Thanks for the comment. 

I took these shots 2 weeks ago at the Museum of the Air Force in Dayton, OH.
