Nope...IMO the generic module is a waste of time.  It only sets up a minimal set of parameters that most of the time I have to edit anyways.

Good news is when the black modules come out you can save your engines to it from the base names and all.  One created you'll never have to use the generic module again for that particular engine.  And with the LSU software we demo'd at York last fall you can do it from your PC.  Coming soon....

No module will not be available off the shelf but once the LSU software and black modules are released, once you have manually entered the info into you base, either via the LSU program or Cab2, you can create a module for it so if you need to enter it again in another base you will now have a module that will do it for you.

So in short...you'll be able to create your own module for it with all of it's specific settings.

It just sets up those parameters.  I can do that via the Cab2 while I have to name and road number the engine.  I might also have to select the RS type.  If I have to do that much I might as well set the Cntrl type and engine type too.

The black module is a storage medium.  You can edit the name now as long as it is not longer than the allowed number of characters.  With the LSU software it will be much easier to edit all the engine info.

Once you edit those names you send them back to the base.  The Cab2 will now display the updated info.

Let's look at the black module...

Say you don't like the description of a Legacy Engine.  For example say your Milwaukee S3, you want a different name.  Maybe you wanted to read Joe's S3 and you want to add the icons to turn on and off the red warning light.  Using LSU you can edit both.  Now you want to take that engine to a friends house that has the same engine.  You can now create a new module (black) and save those changes to it.  When you load that module on your friend's layout it will have those changes.  You will be able to control your warning light as well.

The LSU software is pretty cool from what we seen of it at York LUG meeting.  I think folks will like what Lionel is doing, without over doing it.

Maybe this will help...

Once you have a TMCC engine entered into your Legacy System, using a combination of either using the generic module and then finishing by naming and road numbering or by manually entering all the info manually, the black module will allow you to save ALL of this information.  So in fact the black module has become engine specific.  Now if you carry that engine to the friends layout, use the black module and it will do all the work instead of only a few items.

I think once you see the LSU and the advantages of having the black module you'll see it can be easier.
