I very much like the Amtrak and New Haven versions of the FL9 diesels pictured a few posts earlier.  Does that mean they are already recently built rather than "wished for" in the 2022 catalog?  They'd sure look good next to the AA set of New Haven Legacy PA diesels I opened Christmas morning! (and the matching 6 New Haven passenger cars scheduled to ship to me in May 2022).

Newly returning to model RRs after 40+ year lull, I am first interested in the trains I have seen the most in real life.  But probably as years go by and I read more RR history, I will also look to steam power.  Now back to building my track!

I truely understand that the 3rd Rail locomotives are great models and very true to the prototype.  At the same time, they are marketed to a higher end group of modelers. While Lionel can be pricey, they are still cheaper then most of the 3rd Rail models, and offer features that 3rd Rail does not (Bluetooth and whistle steam as an example).

I don’t want this to derail the thread. What I am trying to say is that the O Scale market is probably capable of supporting the same or similar models from both manufacturers. I don’t believe Lionel and 3rd Rail are necessarily competing for the same buyers.

Just my two cents.

Agreed. Most of the 3rd rail have fixed pilots, which require o72, which most of us don’t have.

Or perhaps some Legacy New Haven EP-5 electrics using old MTH Premier tooling (if acquired too) with catenary arching effects on the pantographs!

The challenge with the MTH tooling is that it is not proportioned correctly.  I do not think MTH sold the tooling for their electrics yet.  The K-Line EP5 was nearly spot on.  Sadly, that tooling is either gone or sitting in the corner of the Kader factory
