That really isn't good news, that is tons and tons of stuff. Did they not learn from all the GS series? There was so many of them, how many got made and how many went to the wayside?

I agree Marty. If they have a reasonable amount of stuff in the catalog, and make sure everything is accurate and no issues, then there is a better chance of nearly everything they catalog will be made. Making a mad dash of a huge catalog is playing with all of us. Of course this really goes down to what the largest part of the catalog will be, high end or other stuff? If it is an expansion into more HO or S gauge, that does not concern me. Even if it is buildings for O and lower end, I'm okay with that. However, if they decide to flood the Built to Order end of things that could be troublesome for those who will have to inevitably choose what to buy. I've already considered to myself that I'll probably limit my spending in the coming catalog as I have started converting older locomotives via ERR or such. See what comes I guess.

I'd say there never can be to much detail!  I'm curious if you've seen my work on CADing up the Gunderson Maxi-III?  So far no one has said I've went overboard...yet.  I really do wish that manufacturers shipped diesel's with fixed steps and couplers that could be easily switched to truck attachment.  It really does unsettle me to see a diesel come around a corner and the steps sticking out.

I'm all for detail.  Maybe I need a comma up in that there quote.

I will still say that a new, modern locomotive will be coming soon.  Since I run mostly freight, I am hoping for a scale ET44AC or tier4 SD70Ace.

Though, based on the statements Ryan and Dave made during theLionel 2021 V2 Catalog stream on YouTube, I am thinking it might be a Siemens Charger and Superliner cars.  I could totally be off, but,if you watch the video, there are several hints that draw me to this conclusion.

First, at the 48 minute mark, there is mention that some scale Legacy equipment will be coming out Amtrak paint.  I am thinking that they bought the tooling from MTH for the Superliners.  They would then need an engine to go along with it.  

To mate with the Superliner cars, Lionel could use their F40PH tooling.  Yet again, at the 1:05 hour mark there is mention of a Charger.  This is in passing, and they had just been talking about the Ford and Chevy accessories, but I am hopeful.

This could all be speculation, but its sometimes from to dream.

I will still say that a new, modern locomotive will be coming soon.  Since I run mostly freight, I am hoping for a scale ET44AC or tier4 SD70Ace.

It wouldn't take hardly any effort for Lionel to update their tooling for the existing ES44AC so it is an ET44AC and toss in some new sound files.  InterMountain has already released their ET44AC's.  I'm looking at 3 or 4 of their CSX versions with LokSound 5's (technically designated ET44AH).

The people at LIONEL do have the Weaver Models O scale GP38-2 diesel-electric locomotive model.

That is the only true O scale GP38=2 loco that they can produce.

It has to be manufactured, assembled and painted in the USA.

The electronics might need to be imported.

Maybe I’m being ignorant, and I certainly do t have a problem with anything made here, but why would it need to be manufactured in the US?  Do they have the means to make any locos in the US?

The former Weaver Models injection molds are in the USA. They can make all of the items from the Weaver Models line in the USA.

It is not advised to move any of the Weaver Models injection molds out of the USA or they will be out of reach forever.

The LionScale freight cars are all former Weaver Models items with a few modifications.

The former K-LINE GP38-2 locomotive can only be mass produced at the Bachmann factory in China.

The LionScale RS-3 and GP38-2 diesel-electric locomotives are eagerly awaite4, but they will have to be sure the graphic printing process in perfected.

Im betting on WM 1309 being in the next catalogue, with its recent restoration being completed.

Hoping for SD38-2's, one hopefully being in the U.S. Steel #1 paint scheme.

Also hoping for a re-issue of the PRR J1a, missed my chance to get it last time.

Seconded on the prediction of a 1309. I'm betting that they'll have a glossy excursion model lettered for WM, and an "in-service" C&O model (optionally weathered). Of course, I want a glossy excursion C&O model, even if it isn't prototypical (I wish WM would have kept the C&O lettering on the tender), but beggars can't be choosers, I suppose.

Between a possible 1309 and the 1218, my wallet is staring at serious trouble in about a year's time. Time to start saving.

I’m in a Christmas mood, so here are some ideas that I would at least consider buying. Lionmaster sd80 North Pole central or polar railroad (red and green). A rerun of the Polar express streamlined set, a North Pole central reindeer streamlined car rerun with a lionchief set led by a ft/f3. Make the cars with interiors instead of the silhouettes. I’d like to see all of these but would likely only buy some of it.

Well, the word is that this is going to be the biggest catalog they've ever run(according to Ryan). I would not be surprised if there were those big UP engines that they ran back in 2010(I think with the NYC Water Level Freight Set), I want to say H-10's "monsters". I don't remember if they're Mallet's or articulated as I don't know which they are classified as. Better knowledgeable people can tell us which they are if I even got the classification correct.

I do know that if there is any run of FEF 844 or the other number it ran on, I'll pick that up as well as the Class A. Whatever else is in the catalog will take a back burner unless there is something in NYC or PRR that I haven't got.

Pure speculation, but, knowing that product development takes a few years, what if the reason that Lionel picked up the Railking Genesis and not the Premier is because they already had a scale version in the works?  It would make some sense to follow up the Acela with a more commonly seen Amtrak locomotive.

Theoretically yes they could have been working on a P42 but MTH and now Atlas have done runs in nearly every paint scheme imaginable. Plus, now you have 3rd Rail producing them. I know I myself would prefer to get old MTH/new Atlas P42s because I can run them with the MTH P42s I have now. Additionally, the P42s will be retired by the end of the decade.

My theory is that Lionel is working on Siemens Chargers. The Siemens Chargers on the other hand can be produced in more road names than the P42 because of their use on commuter lines, as well as a variety of special Amtrak paint schemes (Cascades, Midwest, Pacific Surfliner, etc.). With the release of the Ski Train in the 2021 V1 catalog, it leads me to believe that F40s are on the way to match. Lionel could do another run of F40s, plus Chargers, and Superliners to match both.

RJ, you heard it here first. Lionel is going to re-run the HHP-8 with the panto's removed, in Legacy but non-powered. Then we can model them as cab cars for out and back runs.

There is quite a future for the Chargers if that is what Lionel is making - to which I totally agree that there is a good chance that they are.  Why make a new mold of an old model when they can make a new mold of a model that has years of life ahead.

Tony, I have been looking for HHP8s on eBay to convert to a NPCU since I learned Amtrak was going to start converting them (haha). Only a temporary solution for Amtrak until the new ICTs coming in, they are out of the old Metroliner Cab Cars and need more for future services.

Also by the way I love your channel, just subscribed the other day!
