Hello all .... some of the best parts of the big March meet are the friends you make and the layout tours ... after the two great open house layouts in River Forest ... John and Tony from the Model Railroad Club of Milwaukee were very kind to open the doors for a bit of running .... the first choice for running was the re-worked  1934 Lionel Hiawatha ...pulling Walther's cars  (1935) ...acquired straight from the source ..as Bill Walthers was a member of the club .      Also brought out a  B Electric by Bedell ...offered from 1936 -60 .

Club is a great living legend in the world of O scale  formed in 1934 ..same location since 1936 .  If ever near Milwaukee...a must on the see list ...

Thank you John and Tony for your hospitality

Cheers Carey

2 years ago the club did a major clean up and brigthen up ...as they were part of a city wide open, house which brought many thousands of new folks to the club ,,...the club's location is also becoming hip and trendy ...with luck they can survive for a very long time and attract new blood .

Here is a link to see my  Gil Stovikic engine running,at the club .

Re the Hiawatha in the original post - since the prototype was contemporary to the model, it was the Acela of its day.

That club is an amazing place - friendly folks and such an appropriate location. I was fortunate enough to visit it during Trainfest a couple of years ago. Sure hope they can survive in that location. It was amazing to literally walk in the footsteps of the original gods of model railroading.

A friend and I were able to visit the club during Trainfest several years ago.  I am really glad to hear that they cleaned and dusted the place up as it really needed it when we were there.  The trolley line in particular needed some TLC.  Having said that, it was a truly outstanding layout in an historic old Milwaukee depot and we were really happy to have been able to see it.  And the Hiawatha was running that evening also.  My friend and I were talking about the visit later and both agreed that if we lived anywhere near Milwaukee we would want to be members.

Hello all ...Bob    here is a link to the posting on Gils' engine ..it was his first scratch built  from 1948 ...tis a beast ..runs great ...Gil was near Youngstown ... an old and worn out last breath type of place ...and Gil was able to capture that in his engines ..beast of burden   that kept on working no matter the scars of life .
